Who has their biggest season at WR?

Jun 10, 2017, 12:30 AM

I topic I enjoy posting on every now and then, to see how folks are thinking. A little long, but justified for the accolades of the players we have that make up WRU.

I posted early in Spring the question " Will D. Cain be the first to a 1,000 yds?" got some good feedback. However, the list goes on this time with new names, who you got?

D. Cain : Returning starter ( junior ) " 1st" receiver, get's behind defenders well, very well. Not the fastest, but can use big body ( like Mike ) to catch, run and shed off defenders ( seen in NCG ).
At 6'1, 210lbs. he is a little shorter than Mike, but played well alongside him and learned how to use his body in similar ways. He is IMO, the leader of the offense in the WR group. Record speaks for itself it clutch moments in big games.

Cornell Powell: A favorite rising star of Tiger Nation (Sophomore), no secret. At 6'0 200 lbs, he catch the ball and run like a power back. Has speed, very good range, and going to be a consistent -player for years to come.. Share #2/#3 receiver sot

Ray Ray : ( Junior) With a little burst of talent that we've seen, Dabo's obviously high on the kid for a reason. I just hope he has been practicing catching footballs' all off season, that's his issue, no secret there. He's not big, 5'10, 180lbs. and he works at his best in the option, jet sweeps, etc.. He is fast, I will say that. If he could secure the ball at kickoff, consistently, I'd be up for him taking to the house. The jury is still out on Ray Ray, I love this kids' potential, but it takes work on your weaknesses. We'll see. My guess is Powell or Rogers may get a chance if Ray Ry doesn't lock it up. #3/#4 slot

Overton: At 6'5 200lbs. this kid has a catch radius that is un-real, with the weight to push a defender to the side. I look for Him in that #2/#3 spot.

Higgins: With this being his rookie campaign behind a lot of starters, his playing time will be limited. However, if one of the veterans isn't playing well, and he is, look for that 5 star talent to shine sooner rather than later with Higgins.

A. Rogers : The next Scott? Who knows, but his build and size is similar, maybe rogers has a few lbs. on Scott, either way a compliment for the kid out of the gate. He was highly recruited with Higgins. Same story for Rogers, while he is shorter and can run some option, maybe return kicks for some early playing time.

T. Thompson :(Junior RS) Will be in rotation along with some other WR's to help handle the load. Maybe he steps out this year? Who knows. So far, He has been consistent when called upon.

Hunter Renfrow: (Returning Starter, Junior) Well Tiger nation knows the hidden abilities of the former walk-on, and it started way before the last catch of the NCG. His pass catch against Auburn was a classic amongst many others. Hunter will make his mark, lol, maybe even draw some double teams. What can we say about Hunter. 2 Things. Sure hands & Clutch.

To conclude with Renfrow, He will guide Swinney Jr. and other WR's that aren't listed in the ways of perfecting the walk -on status. Even though Swinney JR. comes from a line of walk-on's that ended up being in NCG's and then a head coach. Thought that would be an appropriate end of my part of the discussion.

WRU TOO DEEP boys and girls. Go Tigers. Can't wait for football season.

My bet is on this young man to have a standout season. The League has already be talking about him, as it's been mentioned in M. Williams conversations to whom is the next talented WR up and coming to the NFL from Clemson. Cain

I have to agree with this, he is way more polished as a receiver than Scott was coming out of HS. IMO if Rogers was 3 inches taller he would be a five star.

Its got to be Cain. It will be his first year in the starting roll at our top receiver spot. His position gets the most targets. Renfrow will be the same as he has been since he got here. He will have a solid season but maybe not his biggest. Its going to be hard to top what he has done the last two seasons. The spot Cain plays is just set up for big seasons. The top three receiving years in Clemson history (in terms of yards) have came out of that position in this offense.

If Ray Ray can put it all together this season, he could be special.

The TigerNet jury is out on Ray Ray

Jun 10, 2017, 11:55 AM

Coaching staff is going to do everything they can to maximize his potential this year. Expect him to be a focal point of the offense.

The drops and fumbling issues have been overblown, in my opinion, because of limited playing time with Artavis ahead of him as the 2.

I don't think drops and fumbles CAN be overblown. I hope he gets the hook early if he's not reliable. We will have to be more of a ball control type team this year IMO.

Cain and Renfrow will be our go to guys , Ray Ray will take over for Scott .
I believe Higgins, Thompson and Overton have solid seasons also.
Feaster coming out the back field could be dangerous to.
If we can get good QB play and a TE steps up , the Tigers don't miss a beat.

I think Cain takes the next step and becomes are top WR. Powell I think we have a break out year not like a 1000 yrd year but a very solid one. Of course renfrow will make impact, I think Tee Higgins/Amari Rodgers one of those guys will be our break out freshmen. But the one guy I think finally clicks for him and has a good season will be trevion Thompson, I just got a feeling this will be his year that he breaks out and does what we thought he could do when we brought him in. No matter what we are stacked at WR. The amount of yards rec and tds will really

Just gotta find the distributor... talent at WR is disgusting, but won't mean much if dont have a QB who can get them the ball. Why I'm hoping someone else wins the job other than Kelly as I'm not sure he's that guy.
