Who do we fax to stop this trend of Personal Foul calls just

Oct 7, 2012, 8:46 PM

because someone gets popped? The hit on Ford yesterday was in no way a personal foul, yet, because it went our way, some Clemson fans behind me were cheering." Yea, eject him!!" I told them if it is coming to the point where a ball carrier can just run straight down the field towards a defender and the defender cannot square up and hit him, then we may as well cut down those $35,000 dollar self lowering goal posts, and cart the soccer nets on over to Memorial Stadium. That call was beyond ridiculous. If it had gone against us with a 4 point lead in the last ten minutes, Death Valley would have erupted. We need to get this movement stopped. The sooner the better.

flag even if it was the ball carrier who caused the contact to be helmet-to-helmet. And that ain't right, we are headed to flag football rules even in the NFL.

The problem with opening the door to these judgement calls

is that you have 7 refs on the field and their is a very good chance that at least one of them will not know what is over the line. But, basically, it appears that any hit where most of the crowd goes "Yeah!!", the handful goes,"Oooh".

When a ref sees a DB launch himself face-high at a 6'4" target and hit that player in the head, I bet you get that call the majority of the time.

It is quite possible to hit somebody hard to make them "think twice about running in the middle" (or whatever) without permanently injuring either player, and that's the purpose of the recent safety push.

For what it's worth, here's an interesting article about a guy that the Pop Warner league hired to teach tackling. Essentially, you can hot properly, and tackle properly, without launching yourself head-first at your target. Some of his students play in the NFL, and one of his current students (at the time of the article) was the second-leading tackler in the state of California.

I dont like them but it will only get worse. The class action lawsuit filed against the NFL has them shaking in fear and NCAA shaking in fear as well.
