Who believes the Blind Side stuff?

4

Aug 16, 2023, 9:27 AM

I find it odd. If everything was so not true, why now? Why wait until now to say something? Seems to me he’s broke and desperate and now making up stuff. I could be way off on it. However, no matter what… he wouldn’t have made it out the Ghetto if it wasn’t for them so he owes them some gratitude regardless.

This seems highly speculative and perhaps unfairly judgmental. I’ll wait until more facts come out on this one.

Yeah…but seems I read somewhere that he only recently learned about the conservatorship from his attorney when they were looking into another matter. That could be speculation too…just trying to give both sides the benefit of the doubt until more comes out.

Helping people is the most rewarding thing a person can do. BUT, 90% of the time, the helped person will bite your hand and decide you owe them. My side hobby is helping people pay for cancer treatments and I have seen the entire spectrum of behavior.
Unless they were keeping a chunk of his salary, this is all about yet another person that resents those that had the means to help and actually did help. If he blew his money, how is it their problem?
He is trying to garner sympathy from B Spears situation,
If he is broke and shaking them down, I would say that is par for the course.
It is vey unfortunate, but definitely human nature.

Michael said he found out about the conservatorship earlier this year. But the Tuohy's son said they have a text from a few years ago that basically Michael is trying to get money from the ($15 Million) or he will go public. If the Tuohy's still have the text then it shows Michael is lying about when he found out and sounds to me like extorsion.

Re: Just curious. Seems odd.***

Aug 16, 2023, 2:38 PM

I saw that too, it's going to come down to who can prove what the best. But yeah, if they have group text showing where he tried to get 15 mil out of them or else type of deal, then its probably all going to end up a wash and he'll lose all trust with the family that helped him out already. It's all a very odd situation regardless, somebody is def trying to double cross the other. I think Michael deserves money if in fact he didn't receive any from the movie, but I'm kinda on the family's side of the whole just using him for money situation, I just don't see that being the case after this long.

Just want to know who would be stupid enough to have a movie made of their life and not think they should be compensated for it. How many NFL players don’t have agents/lawyers lined up to get a piece of something like that.

Think about it. He was a high schooler who had no family security. He was taken in by a family with the means to do it. They took the time, energy and resources that they could have spent on their own children and invested in him. To think they had such long term foresight to see he would develop into an ALL-SEC player and an all-pro, as an offensive lineman no less when everyone knows that O-Linemen are the hardest to project as stars! Dang they must have had a higher power giving them directions, wonder why the higher power just didn't give them the Powerball numbers.

I think any conservatorship should have ended when he turned 25, any monies made off the movie should have been negotiated to shares for each. But this strikes me as a money grab by Oher who is in need of money.

Idk -- I still find the conservatorship odd at best and there hasn't been any fruitful information (least from my digging) to explain why that was the best route... especially when adopting after 18 is legal in TN.

I mean, family dealings can get messy -- especially when money is involved. I can't say for sure that the Tuohys knew was going to happen with Michael but just seems a little weird without more context from the family of why the conservatorship vs adoption and selling it as adoption to Michael.

Will be interesting to watch.

This is a scam by him b/c he didn't handle his money well in the NFL and now has a new book coming out and wants to get this publicity to push sales. Multiple other lawyers refused to take the case after looking at the actual evidence and facts, which the family has proof that they gave him an even cut, and still are even though he's been trying to extort them for a couple of years.

in circumstances such as this, there are two sides to every story and the truth generally lies somewhere in the middle.

That said, if it is true that MO has previously demanded large sums of money in order to "buy his silence", is not a good look for him.

Aug 16, 2023, 10:31 AM

About two years ago when "BS is not a real story" was disclosed in typical news articles. Or where was anybody at or what were they doing? Very rarely is a story "based on a true story" anything close, that's the way Hollywood has to do it to compress a story into two hours and make it dramatic and hit all the crescendos. Another example is "The Rookie" with Dennis Quaid, and there's a long list. The only thing really close to truth was "Unbroken" because Louis Zamparini refused to give up rights to his story unless they held tightly to the truth. Although they still had to work some magic, especially with the romance part. Anyways, thought you'd like to know. I don't know why this is a real news story right now, it's not a new concept.

A couple of things, I checked some of the net worth sites and it seems Michael's net worth is still around 7M so he isn't exactly destitute and in need of a quick money fix. The other thing I find a bit disingenuous is the family is acting like they did a fair 5 way split with Michael between the parents, their 2 kids and Michael. Well, that may sound fair but the reality is the family received 80% of the money collectively, while Michael only received 20%.

If they were really trying to be "fair" then the family should have probably kept 50% collectively, with Michael receiving the other 50%. I guess my summary would be that both seem to be less than truthful about all the facts and circumstances.

Which, given his background at the time, kind of begs the question of why the split was not more equitable. To your point, they clearly did not need the money.

Everyone should remember that the movie was based on the BOOK that SHE wrote, not on his life. It's not like he went to Hollywood to sell his story. Hollywood came after her, the "mom" and author. From the beginning everyone acknowledged that hollywood took liberties with the actual story. Sounds to me like he's a total ingrate.

so he’s looking to gain something from it. My lawyer wife says the adult conservatorship is fishy in that it gave the Tuohy’s complete financial control over rights and profits. Said a more ethical thing to do would be to write Oher into the original movie deal agreement and they should have ended the conservatirship when Oher was capable of managing his own affairs.

I find Oher’s story highly believable…

1

Aug 16, 2023, 2:13 PM

I’ve read up on Michael Oher and before he met the Touhy family he was already Division 2A Lineman of the Year and a First Team All-State player. It wasn’t hard to see that he was gifted athletically and they could have easily taken advantage of that while keeping him in the dark. Also, Michael Oher’s agent Debra Branan ( A close friend of the Touhy family) handled all of his business dealings early on and was also the lawyer who drafted the conservatorship.

Misleading him into signing a conservatorship while convincing him it’s an adoption process is disgusting no matter how you slice it.

Re: Who believes the Blind Side stuff?

Aug 16, 2023, 4:25 PM

Oher wrote a book in 2011, talking about the conservatorship, thanking the Tuoys and others for his success. In the movie they talk about the conservatorship. He knew about it.
The Tuoys had family money from their family business before The Blind Side. All money from the movie is split among the family, including Oher. Now, he’s broke, never like that movie because how he felt portrayed, and has another book about to come out. He’s trying to shake down the Tuoys, who took him in and helped him. Disgusting.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In the 2011 book he said that Sean and Leigh Anne told him that signing the document would make them his legal conservators which is pretty much exactly like being his adoptive parents. That clearly means they misled him.

The movie was hot garbage, and Oher has stated many times how much he hates it because it portrays him as some dumb fool who doesn't know his ### from his elbow. second, Im pretty sure his first lawyer, or agent was a good friend of the "family" so it wouldn't surprise me if they duped him and buried the document. but im gonna wait for more evidence to come out.

Welp, Ol' "Big Mike" is starting to look less and less believable...or more accurately like an outright liar.

https://nypost.com/2023/08/17/michael-oher-received-100k-in-blind-side-profits/

When he claims he didn't know that "he wasn't adopted". He sure seemed to know it when he wrote about in his book back in 2011.

"Since I was already over the age of eighteen and considered an adult by the state of Tennessee, Sean and Leigh Anne would be named as my ‘legal conservators,’” he wrote.

Just another bitter grifter who blew his NFL money and is now spitting in the faces of the people who helped him succeed. Why now (besides trying to sell even more books again)? More than likely because the Dad recently sold the family business for a cool $200+ million recently and ol' Big Griftin' Mike is trying to grab some of that cash. How long before he shows up on "The View" crying his fake tears? LOL
