WhiskeyNet

Sep 27, 2017, 1:17 PM

Did a Michter's tasting at Edmund's Oast last night. Despite their somewhat shady, rocky start, it appears Michter's is starting to hit their stride, and they finally have their story straight. And it can't be argued that a lot of the stuff they were buying and bottling was downright delicious, even if they were being deceitful about being rectifiers.

Got to try these 4:

Bourbon: eh. Drinkable. Won't be seeking.

American Whiskey: Might be the winner of the bunch. Has a subtle Irish whisky (no "e") sweetness. Will kop when I see on shelf.

Straight Rye: have had before, it's a middle-of-the-road rye, nice spice. Neither this nor the American had much, if any alcohol burn on the nose. Won't disappoint at $30 on the shelf, but wouldn't pay much more for it.

Toasted Barrel Rye: this is the unicorn of the bunch--think we were the first (or close to the first) to try it in SC. Only 20 barrels produced, and only 200 bottles coming to SC, so it'll pretty much never be on a shelf. And for all of that...it was mostly underwhelming.

TL;DR Cliffs: buy the Michter's American Whiskey

Also, CBWS procured one of 25 total barrels of a Wathen's special release since the Medley gentlemen like us so much. And it's going to be bottled with our CBWS label included, which is fuggin' awesome.

It's weird, but I've been there probably 5-6 times, and

have never "eaten" there, besides the time John Lewis did a popup a year and a half ago. And since I was eating his beef rib, it doesn't really count as "eating at EO". But the events have always had EO grub and apps, and it's always good.

By average, I mean average for downtown. It's good but not worth $25.

Their beef jerky is dayum good though

You know who probably needs some whiskey right now?

We hit Haymarket in Luhville a coupla weeks ago--delightful whiskey collection. I had Birthday Bourbon, and it wasn't even my birthday.

whiskeys such as Jack Daniels and Old Grand Dad?

I don't know if they're as high class as Jack, but Old Grand

Dad is good hooch, always has been. The OGD 114 is a damn fine whiskey, and smoove for being a triple digit burner.

I keep walking buy Mitchers at the store

Sep 27, 2017, 1:25 PM

can never pull the trigger on them though.

I did get a bottle of Smooth Ambler Old Scout American Whiskey. It's too sweet for me. Has the taste of applejuice to me. I don't think I'll be trying any more blended whiskey for a while now.
