Where would we be today if Purnell had not left?

This is not directed at Brownell. He's making progress. Interested in your thoughts in light of the Steele article.

We would be exactly where DePaul is in their conference. Purnell had reached his zenith here, and he knew it. He will only take a team so far.

I agree with you RamRod. Purnell was done at Clemson.

Brownell is probably the best overall coach we've had.

How the #### should we know?

Logic tells you he left so abruptly because things probably were not on an upward trajectory, otherwise he could have tried to negotiate more money from Clemson rather than making a lateral move. Either way he bailed out on our program so let's support the Coach we have now.

At about the same spot as when he left. This is not an indictment at Oliver Purnell, but he recruited mostly athletes, not basketball players, guys who could run up and down the court, play a pressing defense, but couldn't score. Brad ,on the other hand,is trying to recruit basketball players. And I like his traditional lineup. Knoko is a work in progress,,same with Blossingame and Flier. I wonder how much better we would have been with a healthy Patrick Rooks, and I hope our new recruit Gabe De Voe can be that shooting guard we desperately need. I still think Brad needs another year.

One more year? We were picked to finish 14th for a reason, we are not a basketball school and are not capable of recruiting top basketball talent yet some Clemson basketball fans still expect us to perform far beyond our means. It is mind-blowing. We haven't and will not be an elite basketball program for the foreseeable future so let's support the coach that gets the most from what we have.

Lol huh? OPs teams would #### on the squad that Brownell runs out there. The difference in players are literally night and day. I'd take the OP says any day of the week and twice on Sunday rather them this. Can't beat the Booker, Mays, Stitt, Oglesby, or Grant days.

Interesting Question. Except for Top 5 Teams ACC is Way Down
Mar 3, 2014, 7:20 PM
|
|
And except for KJ McDaniel, Purnell's players including James Mays, Trevor Booker, Demontez Stitt, KC Rivers, Jerai Grant, Terrence Oglesby, Cliff Hammonds, Raymond Sykes, Vern Hamilton and Shawan Robinson and Sam Perry were more athletic and talented than Brownell's team.
Brownell has worked wonders competing this year and should remain competitive if entire team returns next year. Somehow Brownell's team appears to be overperforming and Purnell's team underperformed at the Big Dance. But we don't need to lose sight Purnell and Purnell's players, many alumni, are just as much a part of Clemson Basketball as Brownell and this year's crop. All part of the Clemson Hoops family!

I think Brownell will prove a better recruiter as well--

he's headed in that direction-- just took a few seasons to get it going based on non-existent schollies the first year and pulling in the right assistants

Would have 18 wins with this team. Brownell has done a hell of a job with this talent that he has.

Probably not any further along, don't you recall struggling in the Big Dance and never winning a game? Also, have you seen what he's done with DePaul, it's a friggin' dumpster fire! I'll take Brownlee anyday especially with the skill players that he is bringing in!!!
