worth of something, with NO change coming back. The man didn't even have the good sense to be able to get along with Shannon Sharpe well enough to salvage a successful TV program. I'd sooner trust what Pawl Finebomb says than Skip Clueless.

There is no doubt the national media is anti-Dabo,

2

Sep 6, 2023, 12:33 PM

anti-Clemson, anti-ACC, and it's mainly because they can't understand Clemson's appeal next to Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, the B1G and the SEC. The only way to reverse the extreme level of national media hate and animosity headed in Clemson's direction will be to beat FSU.

Where are the meetings held

when these large groups of media members get together to conspire against Clemson?

Why are they against us? Because we are an ACC school? Because our coach is a Christian?

What do they benefit from this supposed anti-Clemson bias?

Yes and yes Judge Keller®. They strongly dislike Dabo for being a capitalist and a Christian and a winner. They see an ambivalence and hypocrisy in that chemistry. Richard Sherman is pretty upfront on his commonly shared media viewpoint that Dabo is anti-pay and therefore anti-player, as he cashes in. The media groups do not have to get together for a meeting as Twitter, Instagram, TV talk shows and YouTube serve as the meeting places. The beneficiaries are largely the B1G and SEC schools who benefit from Clemson being removed or lessened as a recruiting competitor.

Bingo! Dabo personality and the Christian talk whether you like it or not doesn't resonate with most in 2023. Times have changed and when you’re winning it doesn’t matter but when you’re losing and you have opinions like Dabo (no pay for play) (doesn’t agree with portal) you’re an easy target. Good thing is Dabo doesn’t care!

Baylees was fair. Keyshawn was fair and has actually been to Clemson a couple of times when we were recruiting his kid. Richard Sherman is a known know it all activist from a Stanford who wanted to weave on some “Workers Rights” rhetoric.

Most of this is pretty tough to hear. While I agree with a few points, there are some that I don't but you know what, it doesn't matter what I think. My demographic is nearly the opposite of our athletes, on every level. If EVERY other school is selling what the current athlete demographic wants and we are not, we will be fishing in a very, very small pond for future recruits. I am okay looking for kids that want what we represent (aka Sammy Brown, maybe he is a unicorn) but I guess that also means managing my expectations. I think it is time to accept that old middle aged males are the only ones with a problem with the transfer portal because if the kids didn't like it, the top recruits would be flocking to our current model. I applaud Dabo and his vision and morals, it resonates with me.

I kind of feel like I am standing on the train platform all by myself and the lights of the train are disappearing in the darkness of the tunnel.

I have never when one to embrace radical change but maybe that is where we are now at. At the very least, I wouldn't mind seeing 2-3 transfer in's to replace a few going out and also to address recruiting misses.

Re: Skip Bayless on Dabo Swinney, Clemson

Sep 6, 2023, 2:29 PM

I pretty strongly agree with what you say here. I am somewhat ambivalent about the portal. I never understood why an athlete should have to sit a year after transfer. To me, that was a construct of Universities having all of the power. My opinion has always been that scholarships should be contracts, with repercussions for breach in either direction. There was a change a number of years back where schools could offer multi-year scholarships. That was rarely done, but it would help address this issue. Dabo would likely offer only 4-year rides and those who accepted would have transfer restrictions. Other schools would be free to offer one year rides and would essentially be full time in free agency.

Back to your points, though, I (and virtually everyone talking) am not in the know. I don’t see what he sees and trust him to choose what is best for our program - hiring, recruiting, transfers, media relations, everything.

As for standing on the platform watching the train disappear, with all the negativity out there, it is easy to feel that way. We have played 1 game and I believe we still have a chance to have a great season. Thankfully, my measure of our success is not limited to wins and losses. I am proud that we graduate students-athletes, the players are nurtured to be the best they can be, and they are part of our great university community. If I wanted to watch professional football, I would watch professional football. I think Tiger Walk and Meeting at the Paw are two of the best things we do. I want us to be different. If the cost of keeping that is losing a game or two, I am ok with it. Dabo has shown that we can win at the very highest level without sacrificing those things. I trust that we can do it again.

I love this post.

But unfortunately, the cost will not only be a loss or two.

Not to sound dramatic, this is NOT good. If it was just Skip dee-bag Bayliss I wouldn't care. But it is not. This loss to Duke to has unleashed an GD avalanche of negative publicity aimed squarely at Clemson Football, Clemson University and Dabo in particular. This will not be easy to overcome on the recruiting trail. We're watching the Clemson brand vlaue get diminished in real time. I suggest all the pumpers here open up their checkbooks and start writing fat checks to IPTAY and maybe Dear Old Clemson (NIL) fund. Because we are going to NEED the money to push back on this or risk erasing everything the football program has accomplished - any maybe more.

Sep 6, 2023, 1:56 PM [ in reply to Re: Skip Bayless on Dabo Swinney, Clemson ]

It sounds like we either have to get in the arms race in a big-time way or just be content with a mid-tier program that competes comfortably with the bulk of the ACC teams, and forget about being relevant on the big stage.
And I'm not sure which would be better.

1

Sep 6, 2023, 7:11 PM

Keyshawn and Richard Sherman present the view of the situation that is hurting us. You can argue for/against the points they bring up, but when enough people perceive things this way it hurts us.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Nevermind Skip

Sep 6, 2023, 7:27 PM

Dabo has the right to go against the grain. I believe he thrives going against it. But this will be to his demise is the new CFB arena. The facts are tbat you cannot compete with a team of say 15 free agents that were ar the top of their position groups. We and he don't have to like it. No one ask us our opinions, but as fans of CLEMSON UNIVERSITY we owe to the institution to give our student athlete everyone possible opportunity to succeed. Dabo's view of the current landscape does not do that. He will be forced to change. A manager of mine once told me that in my department I had 2 options. I could change people or I could change people. True statement when you are paid to succeed!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Nevermind Skip

Sep 6, 2023, 8:45 PM

I’ve seen the narrative more than once that Sherman was doing. About NIL. Won’t repeat it here I’m sure you’ve heard it. It’s easy to believe for outsiders, but Clemson folks know Dabo is as good as they come about caring about and looking after players best interest.

Dabo will walk away before he abandons what he has built and how he built it. It's the only way he knows and he has to be true to himself. That's the kind of man he is and I think he's made that clear for some time. Maybe once his boys are all out he and Kathleen will decide to move on. I hope that's not the case

I'm disrespecting his right to his belief. I agree with you. I go to work everyday and when my company does something that I may believe to be unethical or against my beliefs, I have 2 options. As a grown man, so does Dabo. He will be forced to pick an option before next season. In a million dollar business, unfortunately, his beliefs mean nothing. You must do what is best for business. It's the world we are in. I'm almost 50 years old and it's hard to rationalize what we are seeing in tbe world. If we don't adapt we will not thrive.

Sep 6, 2023, 8:50 PM

Truth has to be spoken to power. I didn’t hear much that I strongly disagree with. The “game” has changed- it’s adapt or die. Simple as that. If the University decides it wants to de-emphasize CFB, so be it. But if you are “in” you need to use every tool availabile to compete at the highest level. All the others are.

I don’t like it but that train has left the station
