Do they have to make sure all their hard earned college credits transfer with them? Im sure it’s a priority for most these guys in the portal, right?

It goes without saying that all students have to qualify to be admitted into a school.

for athletes to get in to school.

This is why the notion of academic standards for outstanding athletes is a joke, and has been for many decades when otherwise good schools sold their souls for athletic success.

It is a quality that has value in society, e.g., not calling out that the emperor has no clothes provides many observers with quality free entertainment.

Just the mere cost of higher education is a crime. It worked out for myself that I was unable to attend. Had some things going on that did not allow me to attend even though I did get accepted to Clemson. Growing up that was my goal and never even applied anywhere else. Sucks thinking about it sometimes but ended up with a good job and they paid for me to go back and take online courses. Blessed

That is so funny...and true. I can remember a time when some players would be declared ineligible to play in a bowl game because fall grades came out before bowls and their GPAs would be too low. Then they'd do a little better in the spring and end up having to do well in a summer school class to get back on the team the next fall.

I’m confused on the academic side of things. Didn’t years back you had kids sitting out games or suspended games for low grades? Didn’t we also on occasion recruit players that had to go to the military schools in either Virginia or Georgia? I do not ever hear anything about qualifying or might I say the question of whether a recruit may not qualify. I just see the grad rate now, which is great, but seems the aforementioned issues are now gone.

cheating is more common and easier in on-line courses.

I know some schools require all student-athletes to take all their classes in person, while others allow all on-line courses or some combination of the two.

and isn't a candidate for "Scholar Athlete".

The ugly truth for all of us is that universities are not legitimately in the sports business - it's not in their charter nor their purpose. European and Asian uni's don't have sports teams. But, American uni's have sports teams, and they constantly contort themselves in every way imaginable to pretend that they are not sports businesses when in fact they are.

It would be no different if the uni's just sponsored a Nascar team and stuck paws, spears, buckeyes or whatever all over the car. In effect, we've hired a football team and stuck our logo's on anything they need. And we sell tickets to see them play. Isn't that a business? All the while pretending the players are actually normal poor students.
