Because they are blowing it.
ALL the GOP has to do to win POTUS in 2024 is to nominate ANYONE but DJT. He cannot win another general election. Period. Even against Biden.
DJT is so insecure that he is trying to defeat DeSantis, who would trounce ANYONE the Dems have to offer, before he even gets going, despite the fact that DJT may be in jail by November 2024.
The GOP bench is deep. Their odds are good in 2024. Somebody within the party needs to stop this madness.

Desantis better locate his nards real quick and start separating himself from Trump, or he’s going to be finished before he started. You can’t be “Trump without the Baggage” if you don’t start talking about Trump’s baggage and make an electability argument. I think he will, I think they’re just biding their time. Hopefully. The world can’t take another 4 years of either Biden or Trump.

The only reason DJT is demonized so much is because he's a threat to the Uniparty. (The war party, the MIC, whatever you want to call it.)
He's a crooked developer from New York, so he's definitely not a saint. But at least he doesn't pretend to be, while robbing the country blind (like the traditional GOP.)
If DeSanctis or anyone else was an actual threat to the corrupt criminal establishment, they would try to destroy him too.

I’m a conservative leaning swing voter and I’d stand in a line to vote for Desantis, I’ll even look past the boomer fodder culture war ####, because having someone who can speak in full sentences, who probably won’t raise my taxes, and who might have a chance at some common-sense deregulation and budget constraints vastly outweighs any socially illiberal positions I might cringe at.

Only the people making excuses for losing (mail-in ballots?). If you don't nominate a nut like Trump and double-down on unpopular policies (like forced birth) you might have a better chance. Do you really think moderates want Desantis's platform of white evangelical grievance?
What the GOP since 2008 (the GOP which articulates no positive policy agenda) has done is make a strategy of "if we lose with our platform, we shouldn't change our platform. We should make it more difficult to vote. We should take advantage of fake news. Let's be divisive so people will be scared enough to vote for us and are dismal policies." It's nuts. The crazy right-wingers chase off the moderates in the GOP and then hold their breath and wonder why people don't like the GOP.
And, I get it, you don't care about a thing in this world except for your "pension," but you support the party which, when in control, grows the economy by exploding the deficit (and then expects Democratic administrations to pay the bills).
