What's better---UCONN or unbalanced schedule with 13 teams?

Nov 21, 2012, 11:37 AM

I don't see why the ACC wouldn't consider just staying at 13 teams (which would be 13 for football and an even 14 for everything else due to ND). Perhaps they are considering this, but it seems like the consensus is that Maryland must be replaced. Unless a new addition such as UCONN adds more value than they will be taking (which I seriously doubt would be the case), then it should be a non-starter.

"disadvantage" could use it, given the coastal division sucks.

Stay uneven until the dust settles. Maybe it will buy us time to improve in football as a conference. I'd move carefully. I think adding Pitt, Syracuse and ND may have upset the applecart in the first place.

Unbalanced is best. I have no problem

Unbalanced is best. I have no problem having only division games count in the standings.

Coastal:
Notre Dame
Miami
BC
Pitt
Syracuse
Va Tech

Atlantic:
FSU
GT
CU
NCST
UNC
Duke
Wake
UVA

Rotate teams in and out of the Coastal Division bi-yearly with a rotation that keep teams like Miami and FSU in the same division most years.

The team with the best divisional record in the Coastal plays the team with the best divisional record in the Atlantic in the ACC-CG.

Coastal plays 5 divisional games.
Atlantic plays 7 divisional games.

Other cross divisional games are scheduled to round out 8 or 9 conference games for best match-up and TV appeal so Swoford could get the best TV deal (money) possible.

Unbalanced would work great

In the scenario above, there would never be a Duke vs. Notre Dame/Mimi(etc) cross divisional game. It would be a waste to the TV market. Duke will get their chance to play Notre Dame/Mimi(etc) when they rotate in the same division as Notre Dame/Mimi(etc).

You would really not have to rotate divisions...

The cross divisional games would be scheduled like the ACC/Big 10 basketball challenge. Best team vs. Best team. Worst team vs. worst team. Clemson would get Notre Dame, Miami, and Va Tech enough in this scenario.

Put FSU in the other division NOW

Then we have a meaningful acccg
