What Would A Worthy Schedule Look Like?

Dec 25, 2019, 11:37 PM

Nobody thinks we play enough tough teams. Even though we are bound to our conference contractually. So, with that in mind, what would our non-conference schedule look like that satisfies all the haters around the country?

Alabama
Ohio State
Notre Dame
Nancy St.
Wake
Cuse
BC
L'Ville
FSU
Oklahoma
UCF
S.Carolina - believe it or not it's like a law in the State the two teams play.

Would that be enough? I mean, nobody is playing that. The SEC West supposedly the toughest division in college football had: Arkansas, Miss St and Ole Miss in it. Miss St. got to .500 b/c a rebel player decided to get an untimely unsportsmanlike penalty after scoring a TD. Otherwise 3 of the 6 SEC west teams are not even bowl eligible. So, stop it with the gauntlet talk. I know LSU played across division against Florida. Auburn I believe may have played Florida as well. But, they both also had Vanderbilt! And some other very manageable games!
We could play the above schedule - win them all - people would still have something negative to say! SMH at the haters!

BTW - forget what they think. Our schedule has not stopped us from beating everybody on the above schedule at least once over the last 10 years(except UCF b/c we haven't played).

Go Tigers! Beat Ohio State!

In regards to non-conference, the first team I wouldn't schedule is Notre Dame. They are either all in the conference or an Independent.Just my opinion, but I wouldn't give them the time of day with their "Holier than Thou" attitude. In fact, I wouldn't have done what the ACC did at all, letting them in.
Now as to the rest of the team, UGA Home and away, then schedule other SEC teams every 3 years apart with perhaps a Big 12, or Big 10 home and away Match -up in between.
Then add schools like App State, maybe an Army ,or Navy every five years ,or so.
And lets not forget our old friend Jeff Scott at USF.
Just a few thoughts.

I would love to see us schedule a Big 14 team on a home and home basis. Then they could put up or shut up.

Except that they would be just like the sec teams...we btho them every chance we get but they never shut up.

Clemson would absolutely boat race Florida and Auburn...

Dec 26, 2019, 8:45 AM

Those are two of the most overrated teams in the $EC year-in and year-out.

BTW...there is no state law that requires Clemson and uof6c to play each year. Back in 2012, during all of the conference realignment, State Rep Nathan Ballentine, proposed such a law so as to ensure the rivalry game would continue.

The bill was defeated in subcommittee and the legislation was also opposed by Clemson and South Carolina officials, who were not in favor of having legislative guidance influence their football schedules.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Thanks! Someone that sounded like they knew what they were talking about said it. I wasn't sure. I think some other rivalries did pass it during realignment.

I really wish people would quit promoting the myth that there’s a state law that says we have to play little brother every year.

It’s not a law. HTH

Our schedule is fine; ACC is pathetic this year so extreme weakness in schedule is an anomaly

Dec 26, 2019, 9:29 AM

Just one if those years; we are extremely awesome and the rest of the league extremely sucks so it looks all around bad.

I feel confident that although the conference really really sucks, it has prepared us enough to win another CFP championship - and I expect this to be the outcome.

The media and in air talent don't bother me a bit. We are going to win in Arizona and win in NOLA.

We do have a true non conference schedule issue upcoming in 2021 with SC State, Wyoming, UConn and Scar. Wish we could get out of the UConn game now that they aren’t even going to be AAC, a move made to help their basketball program but will hurt their already pathetic football program.

Not sure of a good solution at this point that will keep the 7 homes games as any P5 team will need a home and home and we don’t have openings for that unless they are willing to wait until 2038 for the return visit.

Hopefully the ACC will be much improved in two years time to help offset the weak OOC schedule.

It’s not the schedule

Dec 26, 2019, 11:29 AM

It’s the current state of the teams on it. Not so long ago, we got credit for beating a highly ranked Louisville with a heisman trophy candidate at QB. We got credit for beating a ranked FSU, or Miami, or even VaTech. Unfortunately, the other power programs in the conference have fallen off a cliff, with few signs of significant recovery. A decent conference championship foe would help as well. The last two years have been underwhelming, but that’s mostly due to the chaotic parity in the Coastal.
Even OOC was unkind to us this year with SoCarolina & aTm underachieving. It’s not like we go & schedule Vandy or Kentucky out of conference. We get teams like UGa, Auburn, Oklahoma and hopefully Florida soon.
At the end of the day, of course we focus on Clemson, but a supporting cast would help seal the deal if we ever fall into the “best of the 1 loss teams” category.

You have only got 6 ACC games there. We have to play 8. (Just in case you were trying to be semi-serious.

I was being semi-serious! I took out the cross-over game and just tried to keep the Atlantic games! Mis-calculation on my part! Thanks!
