What took so long??.......its been a progressive tumble.

it appears most can see clearly now........

-2019 - “Cracks” in the foundation could be seen in New Orleans when we had the offensive talent of Lawrence, Etienne, Higgins, Ross, & Rodgers and we put up 25 points against the 31st best scoring defense in the country……….I’ll give most “fans” a pass for not seeing it b/c we were in the national title game against arguably the best offense of all time, but STILL no excuse for our offensive scoring output.

-2020 – more foundation instability could be seen this year once you took off the Orange glasses and realized we were extremely insulated by a pathetic ACC schedule only (sans Citadel). The ONE “elite” team we play all year beats us by 3TDs in the semis, yet again……..the loss could be accepted, but the lack of OFFENSIVE Scoring with still some semblance of Elite talent still on the team was concerning and visible to fans that didn’t have their heads in the sand……….STILL I give a pass to some for not seeing it b/c weird COVID year……..but not Dabo

-2021 – This is the year EVERYBODY should have started to see it. This is where inferior teams either BEAT US or played us much closer than was justified (sans UGA).
GT Won 14-8 at home
NC State Lost on road in double OT
BC Won 19-13 at home
Syracuse Won 17-14 on road
Louisville Won 30-24 on road
Iowa state Won 20-13
Those six games ALONE were enough to show there were BIG ISSUES, but were excused away b/c…….we got to 10 wins……..DJ being the unjustified main scapegoat………Elliott leaves and Dabo makes the INEXPLICABLY HORRENDOUS Streeter hire.

2022 – yet again a season full of close wins and devastating losses against INFERIOR programs, BUT pay no attention to being 0-3 vs Power5 opponents, just be happy we got a championship in an inferior conference. The signs were there….

2023 – DJ is gone……..Streeter is gone (both part of the problems)……the “Elite” talent is gone…….the “Elite” coaching/development is gone……...the player leadership is gone.....I think this season speaks for itself………

questions are, in your non-orange colored glass opinion:
1. Why did it take so long for some of you to see it?
2. Does Dabo “SEE IT”?
3. Is Dabo willing to do what needs to be done to fix it?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Completely spot on.

And Dabo needs to start prepping Riley now that he’ll get to hire his own guys and hit the portal hard.

Also, needs to start prepping message come December for current recruiting class.

Dabo always says he has a plan for everything. Guess we’re gonna find out.

Dabo has built a staff around himself who are desperate to make sure he DOESN'T see it. They fear having to be on a staff anywhere other than Clemson. Most would be facing dramatic pay cuts or outright unemployment if they were to ever lose their jobs here.

How exactly is he going to "hit the portal hard"? Theres not much room on the roster. I dont disagree with using the portal but sparingly is key imo. Maybe a DE, RT, and LB next offseason at most.

Absolutely Agree. On my walk back to my hotel after the NO game, I did so - deflated - sure some for losing, but more for seeing evidence that there was a slide already in progress

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This Clemson era = the Oregon era of the early 2000's . . . .

Oct 23, 2023, 11:13 AM

Best thing since sliced bread then.
Like owning a Beta video player now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It took a lot of people a long time to see it.

Oct 23, 2023, 9:54 AM

But those who did were endlessly and mercilessly ridiculed on TNet by a faction of the pumper gang who clearly have some mild obsession with Dabo and his staff.

Some pumpers just disagreed and argued logically, and I am thankful for those posters, actually. Having some disagreement is great for perspective. Besides, it's just football afterall, right?

Still, that fraction of pumpers who name-called, and acted with an extreme superiority complex are looking pretty stupid about now.

If you can't see that this program is in a major fall since 2020, then you're not paying attention and/or have some agenda for doing so.

Reminds me of the infighting in CTBs last years. Id bet

A lot of those same people who ridiculed us for wanting Bowden out are now the biggest Dabo supporters. Certainly not saying Dabo needs to go, but we definitely need to clean house with most (if not all) of the O assistants pronto.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

agreed, there have been "some" logical pumper discussions over the yrs.........

6

Oct 23, 2023, 10:21 AM [ in reply to It took a lot of people a long time to see it. ]

but there have been a TON of lunatic obsessive Dabo-ites that gives the feel of having a discussion with Don Munson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe I sound like a conspiracy theorist

3

Oct 23, 2023, 10:27 AM

But I can't help to think some of the extreme pumper types are working for the Clemson social media team in some aspect.

It seems logical that they would start here first, otherwise, I simply don't understand how you can defend the job Austin, Grisham, and Spiller have done. As far as more "veteran" coaches go, Hall has been a disappointment too.

They are clearly in way over their heads.

I have zero doubts that there is a fairly large contingent of Clemson Football/athletic employees on this site..........whether it be for just keeping the finger on the pulse of the fanbase............or posting...........they're definitely here.............which is GREAT, maybe they'll start to listen?

Why else would Dabo make the comments about the fanbase that he did last week?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For sure, players, coaches families, etc etc read TNet.

Oct 23, 2023, 10:54 AM

Fans don't know the ins and outs of a program and have very limited information, true, but it doesn't take a PhD in football coaching and operations to see what's going on here.

Shoot, I saw this fall before with many other teams and Clemson.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe but

Perhaps they also lack critical thinking skills.

answering your questions # 1- I seen this last year was told by Tigernet fans a thumb down. # 2-no Dabo don't see it because he not going to bad mouth his coaches. # 3-no he does not have the coaches to fix it Dabo is the CEO of Clemson football

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I felt it. Not sure why but this came to mind

Very well written. Couldn’t agree more! Only thing I’d add is most people (myself included) were blinded by squeaking by Ohio State. Let’s be honest, we were dead in the water early in that game. While our comeback made it an instant classic, I think had we lost that game playing as poorly as we were early on, the cracks woulda been more visible.

TL16’s performance in the natty was horrendous. What happened to Freshman Trevor? Trevor should’ve improved each year but he regressed.

Once all that elite talent and Venebles left it was GAME OVER! Our D made that UGA season opener close. Once BV left we stopped attracting elite defenders.

Thats why it took so long for many but some of us saw the Titanic start to sink the moment we hit that iceberg

I was at that game and it was the most physical game I have ever watched. I know this is anecdotal but we left everything we had on that field that day and I just don't think the tank was full when we got to New Orleans to play LSU. We won the game but we got beaten up pretty good, physically.

1. I’m usually an optimist and hoping for things to get better as the season goes on or that this team just gets better in general.
2. Dabo has to see it. He knows what’s happening.
3. I think Dabo will continue building Clemson the way he wants to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

saw a good quote regarding the definition of an optimist not too long ago

2

Oct 23, 2023, 10:55 AM

"an optimist is neither naive, or blind to the FACTS, nor in denial of grim reality. An optimist believes in the optimal usage of all resources available, no matter how limited. As such, an optimist ALWAYS sees the BIG PICTURE. How else to keep track of all that is out there?...An optimist is SIMPLY a PROACTIVE realist."

so.........I too am an optimist. Just b/c I "call it like you see it", even when it's not "rosy and rainbows".......doesn't mean I'm NOT optimistic.

There wasn't anything wrong with the 2019 team

2

Oct 23, 2023, 10:56 AM

We just got beat by one of the best CFB teams I've ever seen. LSU's defense was very underrated by the end of the season because they had a bunch of guys out with injuries earlier in the season that they got back later on. In their last 4 games they held A&M to 7, Georgia to 10, Oklahoma to 28 (the least OU scored in any game all season), and then Clemson to 25.

Cracks began to show in 2020. There was a huge drop off on the OL. Etienne's YPC went from 7.8 for his career down to 5.4. WR talent was OK, but no longer elite. Rodgers and Powell led the way. EJ Williams, Ngata, Ladson, and Ajou Ajou were all young guys on that team that never developed. Ajou Ajou is the only one of that bunch that wasn't very highly rated out of HS.

And on defense we had major issues with both depth and speed at the LB position.

And Ross never had a season anything like hus freshman season ever again. He was mostly injured and a non factor.

People were arguing that we weren't in a fall or declining, even just before this season started.
