What is really on the line vs. LSU?

Dec 4, 2012, 11:55 AM

Answer: A trophy that says Chicken Bowl Champions.

That isn't the goal for this program (or LSUs). To take the next step, we need to win games when national championships are still on the line. I will patiently wait for 8/31/13 vs UGA.

Bowl win. Being 11-2 and beating a really good SEC team.

nothing compared to what was on the line for the SCar game***

BECAUSE that game was for the National Championship --

Actually more because there was no championship on the line

Dec 4, 2012, 12:05 PM

Win that game and 99% of the people here are talking about what a fantastic season this was.

Now we are taking about not being able to beat a team we've dominated for years. That loss pretty much ruins an otherwise outstanding season. Quite unfortunate, but that's the truth.

It does not make it a great season but it does not ruin it

Dec 4, 2012, 12:08 PM

if we can win the bowl game and finish 11-2.

Florida State.

Losing to South Carolina was just confirmation that we are further from the primary goal than we all thought or hoped.

1. A chance to beat any SEC team
2. A chance to beat a Top 10 team
3. A chance to prove that our 10 win record wasn't just a result of other teams on our schedule having exceptionally bad years.
4. A chance to gain a mega shot of momentum heading into next year's opener against Georgia
5. A chance to gain national RESPECT and diminish our poor bowl reputation attained by last year's OB debacle.

I am tired of moral victories

Dec 4, 2012, 12:06 PM

How are we going to gain national respect by beating LSU in a glorified exhibition game? We need to beat a top 10 team when the national championship is on the line.

Re: I am tired of moral victories

If those are your expectations, then you are going to be disappointed 99% of the time. Not many teams (other than Alabama) play for the NC very often.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson doesn't have to be Alabama

Dec 4, 2012, 12:14 PM

Alabama is where they are because of a coach, not the program. If Auburn, Oregon, Notre Dame and LSU can do it, why can't Clemson? All I am saying is a win over LSU may have us feeling good going into the off-season, but it won't get us any closer to the end goal. Beating LSU on 12/31 is much easier than beating them on 10/31...or 1/7. We need to show we can win when it counts.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i wouldn't go that far....maybe a BCS game on the line......

Dec 4, 2012, 12:14 PM [ in reply to I am tired of moral victories ]

or better yet just beat South Carolina and the troubles over the last 4 years (except 2010) are washed away.

Unfortunately we have no chance against LSU. Georgia either unless all the ga players graduate.
Blabo don't know how to coach "smashmouth" and worse, he is back meddling and calling plays again
Dabo is incompetent.

Ranked team. If these were not our goals and we ended up here then we underachieved and should have no problem beating the sec 5 in a bowl game but we are not expected to so there is plenty on the line..
Respect, recruiting, getting over the so called hump against physical smash mouth teams and oh yeah to say we beat a ranked team this year
