I imagine a lot do b/c most don't/won't get a meaningful paycheck from the pros.

getting a paycheck from "The Tiger sock shop" is probably the biggest check some will get for their "football" playing talents....or "NIL"

ON3s proprietary NIL algorithm is garbage

These hack writers need to stop using it as a basis for stories. I’ve seen like 9 variations of this same Brock Purdy outrage story.

yep the 'managers or handlers' of these players probably paying ON3 to 'create' these values.

I read the article. What do you think is outrageous about it?
Why is that a hack writer?
It all seems to be the legit #s to me.

I don’t understand what you see wrong with the article.

I will listen to your answer.

It’s typical that they assign the name “proprietary algorithm” to On3’s guess of how much each player makes in NIL money. It’s the same idea as when Uncle Rico and Kip had name tags made with their pictures on it so they would look legit.

"In addition to his salary, Purdy makes money from off-field endorsements with brands including Alaska Airlines, Toyota and Buffalo Wild Wings, but terms of those deals have not been made public."

Guess what else hasn't been made public?

Poaching and back door deals stinks of corruption, and to think all this is under the guise of NIL. What a joke. Most people would not know most of these players outside of the team they currently play for. DJ is getting around and feel most of the nation knows him by now.

Love the intended concept but like everything around competion and money things go sideways fairly quick and even faster when rules are not enforced.

Until the crack team of maths pros at On3 shows their maths, I'm dubious

about those "proprietary algorithms" and their valuations.

But yeah the market is setting the rate and based on what we've heard three CUMBB players are dividing $2.4M in NIL this season, alone.

That's three marquis players at a middling ACC basketball program.

Imagine what Klubnik can command as CU's QB1 or someone like the Etienne kid at UGA.

And the really screwy thing is if I'm a CFB player, I'm thinking like a mercenary.

"That TD I just scored is worth X in NIL valuation ... so I'd better pop off my helmet and sprint to the 50 so e'erbody sees me," because it's suddenly all about my personal brand and not the team.

It's why UofSC has built an NIL program that leverages branding, social media, brand management, marketing, financial planning. Because these kids are all walking, talking, fully-functioning Don Kings.

It's all just so icky now.

Brock Purdy is a Unicorn story, even moreso than Tom Brady. Brady was a sixth

round pick, Purdy was the ABSOLUTELY LAST PLAYER TAKEN IN THE DRAFT! Mr. Irrelevant, his ownself. He is the embodiment of what Dabo preaches, which is, be prepared for an opportunity that might not come, instead of just sitting around. Purdy made the team almost as an afterthought, and then literally every other QB on the roster got hurt. So, he got his chance, and obviously ran with it.

I unplug my nose in the general direction of those who want to refer to Brock Purdy as just a "game manager" at QB. EVERY successful QB is a game manager. They all work with the chess pieces at their disposal, and the ones who utilize those pieces the best have the most success.

Not that I am comparing Purdy to Joe Montana, but there were detractors around during Joe's time that referred to him as just a "system" quarterback, running the "West Coast Offense" . Again, another ridiculous statement. EVERY QB is a product of the system that they run. Some thrive within that system, and some fall flat on their faces. Success certainly does not come just because of the system, it requires individual talent.

Seems to happen quite a bit in basketball.

There are definitely basketball players with no NBA potential making 6 figures.

To give an example, I'd expect Bacot at UNC is making more at UNC than he ever will make in the NBA and that's why he came back for his senior year.

I say good for the college players but I can assure you Purdy will make more than that in the future and those college players may never make it in the NFL.

They continue to play for the collegiate sometimes I guess

In your example though, it’s not the least bit surprising that the top NCAA players are making more than the last pick in the draft. That is how it should be

That is exactly why Hartman went to Notre Dame. He made more this year there than he will make in the NFL next year.
