Arguably, biggest defensive play in Clemson history. And

Feb 28, 2022, 2:38 PM

just an amazing play with cornerback dropping so deep while not guarding anyone man to man.

Given the stage, I may could agree with that

Feb 28, 2022, 2:41 PM

But the Gaines Adams return against Wake literally changed the entire game on one play. That one will be forever etched into my memory.

Yeah, but this was very early in the game

Feb 28, 2022, 2:43 PM

Gaines did it with the game on the line. I go with Gaines, this is top five for sure.

the Gaines Adams one was the first to pop in my head

Feb 28, 2022, 2:56 PM [ in reply to Given the stage, I may could agree with that ]

the Louisville and ND juans poasted below are up there, and I'd say bigger than the OP (tho it was hella allsome)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My mind went to the stop of Notre Dame's 2 point conversion

Feb 28, 2022, 2:47 PM

since it led to a title game run. But this was probably bigger.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If I may, sir...

Feb 28, 2022, 2:49 PM

But the biggest play may actually be this stop against Louisville, and it had wide-ranging effects on all of college football. Here's a good analysis of it.

That was the first one which came to mind.

Mar 1, 2022, 5:23 AM [ in reply to If I may, sir... ]

I remember a ton of great and important plays but I think the OP is right. The play which turned out to be the turning point in a NC game is probably just above any in my lifetime.

I'd add the Woody Hayes interception and the impact that had on college football was up there too.

He timed it soooo perfectly, too. Crept up pre-snap showing

Feb 28, 2022, 2:57 PM

corner blitz, line shifted over and Tua KNEW he was coming so he didn't bother looking back over in Mullen's direction the next 3 seconds. Mullen used all 3 of those seconds to drop straight back, like he knew exactly where Tua was going.

Well, what about Charlie Baughman's INT in our first natty?

Feb 28, 2022, 2:59 PM

sealed the win, iirc.

That was BV brilliance.

Feb 28, 2022, 3:18 PM

He used the corner as a deep zone coverage which is almost always a safety. Tua saw the safety up and thought just heave it since it should be one on one with Judy. Throw it deep and let Judy make a play. Worst case is you overthrow for incompletion.

EXCEPT FOR THE CORNER PLAING A DEEP ZONE! BOOM!

For just plain pure bad-azzzedness, the McDaniel / C.Ponder play tops them all in my book.
