We'll make the playoffs. It will be a long and frustrating

process due to the schedule, but we'll get there.
Clemson was not a power house offensive line or an amazing offensive scheme or play calling when we won our last two National Championships. We did have difference makers at QB with strong accurate arms and mobility and wide receivers and tight ends that could make contested, often amazing catches.
Everyone knew going into the Georgia game that it would be difficult to run on them and that our throwing and catching would be the difference in the game. Our QB had proven his mettle in two big starts and a season under his belt. Our best wide out was back after a year off and we were healthy at wideout and tight end with a plethora of stallions ready to dazzle.
Unfortunately, our QB was unexpectedly rattled for basically the entire game. The expected lack of a running game and the frazzled nature of our QB left us few to no options for offensive success. We couldn't create any space with our passing game as our QB couldn't spot open receivers and wouldn't tuck the ball and run when opportunities arose.
We have a great defense. If our QB plays an average game Saturday night, we win. Alas, he did not, which came as a shock to everyone. I still think we have amazing receivers and tight ends and a strong armed accurate and mobile QB.
DJ had a terrible game, but the flip side is that he will play much better going forward, like we witnessed last year, and we'll be a much much better offensive football team than we were in that first game.
Patience, Grasshopper.

going to do. The people putting us down act like everybody else in the Top 10 is going to go undefeated. We've just got to focus on winning out.

Agree. But since we have room for error, this will be tricky.

There is one undeniable fact that we cannot get away from that makes DJ different from his predecessors...he cannot run. He's a big guy with a big body and big feet and he isn't a natural runner. I don't think we can fix that problem, and with a limited running game to boot, I think we are hard pressed to get into the playoffs this year. I hope I am wrong, but I am worried about us playing NC State. Dorian has wanted to knock us off for years...this may be his chance. If we both win these next few weeks, they may make that a night game and that place will be amped up for an upset.

I hope State is and they make it a night game. Most likely State would be top 25, maybe top 20 if they look good these next weeks. Would be just what the doctor ordered for us to look like Bama did against Miami.

He has about a 4.8 40-yard dash, and did you see that 250 dude nearly chase down that UGA safety on the INT.
He's not Deshaun Watson,, but he can run. He just needs to loosen up and play.

where did the RPO offense go? Have they instructed DJ not to

run this year b/c of depth. There were holes to evade the pocket and pick up 5/6 yards or more that night and he never tried. They ran the RPO with Trevor last year and every year prior. But this one game they didn't show it at all. And we had 3 points with 2 rushing yards.

DJ was either handing it off or trying to throw it when the QB run was available.

Agree with your assessment except believe offensive playing calling could have been much better to offset our QB and offensive line problems I do believe DJ got the talent but if he can’t handle the mental part of game Taisun can be good enough to do it He is much more Mobil and was really looking good in spring game before he got hurt

Not saying it isn't possible, anything can happen, but we'll likely only make the playoffs if we completely annihilate EVERYBODY for the rest of the year. EVERYBODY. Sorry, we ain't getting in before a one-loss Georgia, one-loss Alabama (not likely) or even a one-loss Notre Dame. Why? Because our remaining schedule is complete and utter garbage. So I hope to see exactly ZERO players named "Swinney" or "Herbstreit" on the field at anytime other than extra points and/or the last 38 seconds of EVERY GAME. We need to be Louisville in 2016. They kept Lamar Jackson late into a lot of games. ####, pretty sure Lamar started the second half when they were already up 56-0 against Charlotte.
If we want to control our destiny, being merciless is the only way we do it this year -with THIS garbage ACC schedule in front of us.

Like I posted before REMAINING SCHEDULE Look below. Even with their smattering of ACC joke squads, they actually play Va. Tech and UNC. They already beat FSU - probably the best game left on our schedule, so assume they lose to the real USC, their 11 wins look WAAAAY better than ours - unless we utterly dominate everybody in our wins. And if you don't think in the era of ESecPN that two SEC teams aren't already pre-primed for the playoffs, you're not paying attention.

Right now NC State is the best team on the schedule and we'll play the Coastal champ as well.. if we win.
If we win Notre Dame won't pass us.
Like pointed out numerous times, shat happens every single season. Any team can lose. For instance, just because UGA win a game we gave to them, why would anyone assume they're headed straight to the SECCG undefeated? Georgia has lost an average of 3 games per year since the inception of the CFP, and by no means did they look like worldbeatersbon Saturday.
Teams are going to lose and there will be many upsets. Again referencing UGA - if they puke away another game to UofSC or some other lower tier team, and we improve like we normally do in-season (erasing DJs performance), then there's no reason why we couldn't pass them.
Its way to early to assume the 5 teams ahead of us are just going to win them all. Undefeated teams in the playoff era are extremely rare.
All we need to do is win and improve, and rest assured shat will happen.
And unless we have some ugly wins against so-so teams and ND just shows out the rest of the way, then they aren't going to pass us. Another thing to consider is we will still carry benefit of any doubt based on our CFP history.
I'm sure you'll find an angle to defend your opinion, but we'll just have to agree to disagree. If we go undefeated the rest of the way, its actually likely we get in.

Respectfully disagree, and I hope I'm wrong. There is and will be a very active coalition of conferences, universities, networks and reporters lobbying against even a 1-loss Clemson who will play only one competent team -- particularly based upon Clemson's past 6 years of playoff participation and the woeful 2021 ACC and OOC schedule.
We'll grind it out like you said, the team will get better, but other conferences and and one-loss programs will seek and protect their perceived rights to a playoff opportunity. Again, I'll be pulling for the Tigers, and we'll be in the playoff debate, and I hope I'm wrong.

You are wrong. We lost a close battle with UGA with the offense having a terrible night. If we win out convincingly, we are fine. Bama UGA and Clemson could all be in to be honest.
This is a long season and Bama may be the only undefeated after all is said and done.
Lots and lots of football left.

are few and far between. I believe the vast majority of us know from the CFP era that shat happens and very rarely do teams go undefeated.
We are in a good position and if the committee voted today we'd likely be 6th just like we are in the AP and Coaches poll. That ain't that far off - just keep improving over the season and winning like we can, and the other stuff will pan out.
