Well...I come home from my running the steps at Wren and this fella was playing in the drainage Calverton my street....I just hope some of my non outdoors type neighbors realize he may be suffering from.....rabies....I can just see some idiot going, "Ohhhhhh, he's sooooohhhh cute! LET'S PET HIM. A D OFF TO THE CLINIC THEY GO TO GET 22 SHOTS IN THE STOMACH!!!

It’s the mamma you got to watch out for. I live in the Lowcountry and we had a bad outbreak of a disease that took out a lot of the coons. It wasn’t rabies but it was devastating to the coons. Since he is by a culvert (after all the rain we have had) tells me the outbreak has spread to the upstate. Dehydration is the first sign of the disease.

Rabies ain't no joke, nor is the treatment, at least from what I am told. I do my best to never have to experience that for myself!

Raccoons contract a type of pneumonia and it affects the way they walk and breathe. If he is unsteady while walking and not coming in your direction, its probably this but don't take any chances. The only way to be sure that it is rabies is to kill it, cut off its head, and take to DHEC. A DNR officer (game warden) could handle this for you.
