Week 1 of the 2023 college football season

3

Apr 3, 2023, 2:41 PM

First time looking at week 1 games and there's not a lot of intrigue on Saturday. Florida @ Utah moved to Thursday night 8/31. Also on Thursday night Morehead State hosts W.Virginia State, it would be nice if Morehead would give their football program the same support as basketball. Louisville plays G.Tech on Friday 9/1, in another GT tarp off the upper deck of Mercedes Dome game. Sunday night is the game of the week with LSU taking on FSU in Orlando. And of course we play @ Duke Labor Day night.

Saturday is USuCk vs UNCheat in Charlotte and that's it for the whole day. Unless we get one of those early season upsets like Indiana over Ohio St. or ECU beating Michigan up at the Big House, it's shaping up as a boring opening Saturday.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Of course we will be ready to watch no matter what. I'd love to see ECU & Michigan have a close game in the 4th quarter. The unexpected results could help make up for a lackluster Saturday.

I will be in Maine for a wedding. Maybe late I can catch some of the Coastal Carolina win over UCLA.

Monday we will be in Boston watching the Tigers open at Duke.

In 2022 South Alabama left Pasadena with a narrow loss. Coastal Carolina can do better.

Is the move to pull for FSU for ACC strength arguments or should we hope the Noles recruiting was over hyped

I want FSU undefeated coming to Death Valley. Then I want us to proceed to blow their doors off.

I don't think it will be boring at all.

Opening games are always intriguing. Fans have heard all off season how good their team is. But, are they really that good?

Florida beat Utah last year. I'm hoping Utah returns the favor and beats them by 40 this year. And, at any rate, it should be interesting. Fans down here are really getting antsy about Napier. Gator fans are among the most impatient in the country. If Napier doesn't win 8 games this year, fans will be calling for his head.

Obviously I'm interested in FSU vs. LSU. Both teams may enter the game as top 10 teams. FSU fans think this is the year that the planets align. We will lose a ton of talent off this years team. Most folks expect the 2024 team to be younger and less talented than the 2023 team. Wildly optimistic fans are saying if we don't make the playoffs it is a disappointing year. Other, more realistic fans, are cautiously optimistic but are looking at LSU and Clemson as toss ups at best.

And, with a new OC and a young QB, questions about Clemson will be asked all off season. Duke is not the Duke of old. They did win 10 games last year. I'm looking forward to seeing "the new Clemson offense" as well as an improved and more aggressive defense. But, I'm not expecting a boring game with Clemson emptying the bench in the middle of the third quarter.

I can't wait for that weekend to get here.

You very correct that it's not a very intriguing slate of games but I bet all us college football fans will be watching nonetheless, especially with the month of practice reports leading up to game 1.
