We have lost our edge!

Nov 29, 2022, 8:45 AM

I have been a Clemson fan a long time. I was young when Danny was walking the sidelines, and I was student when Hatfield/West were coaching. I have seen Clemson in bad years and mediocre years. Through it all I am thankful for the great years we have had over the last decade or so.

Even during the Spurrier streak, you could see our Tigers elevating their game through better play, better recruiting, but most importantly through their attitude and drive to be great. We were learning how to win, but being disrespected by the media along the way. WVU blew us out in the Orange Bowl and 1 year later we beat LSU when no one thought we would. I really believe that 4th and 16 was the turning point for Clemson, and beating LSU in the last second kick started the rise to the top.

After many years of success, we as a fanbase have gotten spoiled by winning, and our favorite team has lost the edge that made them great. Dabo can talk about the Roy Bus, but this Tiger team has not bought into that mentality like our teams from 2015 to 2020 did.

Maybe little old Clemson needs some disrespect from the outside to fuel the fire again. The media is already on board as guys like Finebaum and Klatt have been criticizing Clemson all season and for good reason. We never looked like a legitimate playoff team like we did for so many years.

Maybe some humble pie for the Clemson coaches, players, and fans will once again start the engine of the Roy Bus because that is when Clemson is the most dangerous and play its best.

As much as we hate losing, I am sure Dabo hates it more. As much as he finds joy in winning, losing is hard to take. I am excited our Tigers have a chance to win the ACC again. Winning is not easy and it is definitely a great accomplishment. Win Saturday and we have a chance at a 12 win season which is incredible.

Just like 4th and 16, I think the loss to Carolina Saturday will be one of those pivotal games. I think this offseason is going to be one of the most important of Dabo's career. I believe some changes are coming to the coaching staff, and I believe Dabo will use the transfer portal for the first time to fill some gaps. I think this team is going to look and feel different next season. Not saying Dabo can rebuild a playoff team in one offseason, but he can field a team that begins the climb back to the top and that will be fun to watch again.

"I've played multiple sports and would bet any amount that I'm still more athletic than you at this present time...."
