Lounge question - worn out welcome?
Aug 24, 2012, 10:56 AM

Hey Lounge, Let's say that you live pretty close to Clemson, and you have family that lives far away. Everybody has season tickets.
How many times per football season is reasonable to host this family? The visiting family is not particularly helpful when they are here, don't contribute to grocery bill etc, and we end up being responsible for childcare for much of the weekend.
The visiting family consists of Mom, Dad, two small kids. Mom won't make the trip more than once, so it's usually the Dad and kids, sometimes Dad by himself.

Your brother - say something about it

If it were the wife's family, you need to talk to her and let *her* say something.
And if your brother doesn't like it, remind him about the eleventy-billion dollars per night, must book all weekend hotel bill he can pay in town during football season. Doing favors for family or friends is one thing. Constantly footing the bill when they show up is another. The only ones I do that for are my mom and dad.

So there is no confusion there.
My feeling is, they are family and we're glad to host them all once per year regardless.
If they want to make the drive again and can't fit a hotel in the budget, fine, whatever you can stay a 2nd weekend, but you better be ready to contribute.
But beyond that, it's just too much for us.
Does this sound reasonable?

Reasonable?

In my mind, reasonable is arranging an accident for him so that the inheritance IS ALL YOURS.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
ALL YOURS!

Even if it's just, as another poster mentioned, they bring beer or make dinner one night or something. Anything other than freeload would be OK by me. I wouldn't expect a water or power bill payment, but something to make up for the inconvenience and extra effort you have to make.

Typically he brings beer and soda, maybe a small snack.

Between us though we would drink maybe 6 beers total, so it's not really a big chunk. But definitely not enough to feed them all weekend.
It would seem more fair to me if he would spring for the tailgate food or one meal per trip.

They are too far, we go there maybe once every 1-2 years.

Unfortunately they want to come to 4 or more games each year and assume we will host.

more than we would otherwise. Our house is not kid-proof, so we have to be kind of on duty all the time.
