Is Clemson basketball a virtual lock to make the tournament?

Thoughts? If not what needs to happen to lock a spot in the NCAA tournament?

It would take an epic flameout from here. Warren Nolan predicts us at 8-3 down the stretch. 7-4 would probably still be safe. 6-5 or less and it will start getting really iffy. But going 6-5 after this start would be pretty miserable.

Yes, we're a lock. We have enough quad 3 and quad 4 layups to get us in. We have 4 games left that should be challenging competition. We could lose all 4 of those and still make it.

If we were to lose the rest of our games (11 regular season games plus 1 ACC Tournament game) we would finish 16-16. That wouldn’t get us in.
If we finish .500 the rest of the way (6-5 regular season, and 0-1 in ACC Tournament), we would be 22-10. I think that would probably get us in, but it would likely depend on who we beat and who we lost to.
I wouldn’t feel good about anything less than .500 the rest of the way getting us in.
I think the ACC gets at least 6 teams in this year so we should be fine, because I don’t see us finishing lower than 5th. But as we know, it’s not just about how you finish in the league, but also about metrics (NET ranking and other statistical measures, plus the committee’s perception of how good you are).
Lunardi currently has 7 ACC teams in the field. He has us as an automatic qualifier, meaning that we win the ACC Tournament. That would be amazing! (and would obviously get us in the Big Dance)
We are in GREAT shape right now. I really hope we can get Chase back soon. We are clearly a different team with him. Alex being healthy will help a lot too. And we can’t afford to have any other significant injuries.
We can have a special season if we can get and stay healthy.

Right now, our NET is 59.
So we are far from a lock. But typically speaking, a NET of 35 or better is a slam dunk to make the tourney.
A NET of 59 is on the outside looking in. But that ranking should improve down the stretch. If we win the ACC reg season, then we will be in with a pretty decent seed.

You can hate it all you want but this is directly from the NCAAs website: “ The number of Quadrant 1 wins and Quadrant 3/4 losses will be incredibly important when it comes time for NCAA tournament selection and seeding.” So it matters.

Most of the talking heads seem to think Clemson will need 14 or 15 conference wins to remain firmly in the NCAAT discussion.
Clemson is currently sitting at 8-1 in league play with 11 games to go meaning the team will need to win 6 or 7 of the remaining 11 games which is definitely doable especially if Hunter and Hemmenway can get back on the court. That would also likely make Clemson one of the top four teams in the league standings which carries with it a double bye directly to the quarter finals and would likely eliminate the need for a must win in the conference tournament.
I remain cautiously optimistic.

We’re not a lock by any stretch.
The NET rankings rank is lower than VT, a team we’ve beaten twice this year. That shows how important our 2 quad 4 losses are. We need to stay consistent this time. We have a good win against Penn State, and some other games. But we don’t have any pull as far as Perception of our basketball program.
It is mid season right now, not even to February. Teams like Duke and UNC are not where they should be record wise, but believe me they will play true to their roster talent as we near the end. So nothing is a lock right now, and we must keep winning and just focus on dominating the standings. But being positive, we truly do have a legit team and can have all the success there is.

Absolutely not. We need 4 wins to be 12-8 in the conference but I think it will take 13-7 but depending on the other teams, that might not be enough.
