Watson's future

Nov 4, 2021, 9:51 AM

Since he obviously missed the trade deadline, and all these legal cases are still open and pending, what do you all think his future holds?

He's obviously a great QB, but after sitting out for an entire season, I can't imagine that won't impact people's thoughts on his capabilities. The state of the NFL right now is they don't want any headaches - well, not certain headaches, like this. I know it's a very different situation, but kinda reminds me of Kap and how, even though he was a good QB, teams just didn't want the distraction and then, the longer these guys are out of the game, the less confident teams will be of their capabilities. I know - there are a LOT of differences between DW and CK, but I think there are those two similarities in that either COULD bring in unwanted distractions and the time away from the game doesn't help anything.

Re: Watson's future

Nov 4, 2021, 9:59 AM

I think it's best for him that he wasn't dealt.

A big trade would have been headline news and all of his baggage would have been rehashed on every show for at least a week and he made his transition to a new team.

Best case scenario for him is that this situation is quietly resolved prior to next season and teams will feel more comfortable with trading for him once they know where he stands.

It will still be a story if he gets back on the field, but if everything has been resolved then there is a lot less speculation and wild story telling that goes along with the extra attention at that point.

I don't know that it will happen that way, but I think a trade now would have been a storm of people arguing on both sides for his availability to get on the field.

The only proof of him doing anything other than getting a massage from women that put themselves in an awkward positions by giving rich men massages as requested for a higher payment. After months of this practice, a shady lawyer come in to recruit these women to make false claims (that were actually voluntary on their part) for a lawsuit against one particular customer that happens to be a very rich young NFL star, with their only intensions are, to try and fleece a lot more money from this Very Rich NFL star than their agreement of payment was actually for originally, with the shady lawyer getting paid quite handsomely himself by leading these so called massage therapist into a conspiracy that will hopefully get them all paid a lot more money that was agreed on with this Very Rich NFL star named Deshaun Watson, starting QB for the Houston Texans NFL FB team.

Even if I had never heard of Deshaun Watson in my life, and if I was on the jury hearing this case that was brought against this very rich young man by women that gives massages to naked young men that's covered only with a towel, I would see from the beginning that this was a get rich scheme, and mostly everything I heard in the trial, I would believe that most, or all of what I had heard was fabricated by the plaintiffs and their attorney. I would find for the defendant, not guilty for any of the BS these lowlifes are trying to pull off. The best thing that DW4 could do for himself, is to get his attorneys to get this case to court soon as possible. I'm sure DW4's attorneys are trying to get this case heard ASAP, and the shady attorney is stalling for more time. DW4's attorneys is going smear anyone involved with this case, and they know it. This case will never see a court room in criminal, or civil!!!!

Those women are going to be paid, regardless of whether they ever see a nickel of DWs money. I'm not saying what he did was the smartest thing in the world to do, especially when he seems to be a smart kid and seemed to be morally upright, but I don't believe any of those women were forced to do anything against their will. McNair and his sleazy lawyer buddy are doing this because DW publicly bashed the team. McNair is just trying to get even, and those women have probably been promised pay whether DW is found guilty or not. Just my opinion.

It was reported by a Houston radio or tv station, whoever Khou is, on January sixth, Watson requested the trade. Yup, the season was over by how many weeks? He had signed the gazillion dollar contract, which probably made him happy, but it was rumored he had conversations with other players, that eventually left the Texans, about not being happy, before his new contract. Just rumors, but usually, when there’s smoke there’s fire. That’s my new/old slant. Maybe you can enlighten me as to how you knew he was so happy.

Nov 4, 2021, 5:21 PM

Either one of two things.
DW is guilty, or there is an organized conspiracy against him. If the latter is true, I would like to know who organized the shakedown/ takedown, whichever the case may be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

DW visited a lot of escorts/massage therapists.

Nov 4, 2021, 6:33 PM

They didn't all run to police after meeting with Deshaun, and they all have one or multiple encounters with him. Where was their outrage following his visits? It was business as usual for these ladies.

Ultimately they were gathered together by a lawyer.. a lawyer who wants to make money. The lawyer has told all of them - let's get a payout. There is no real interest in criminal charges. These women didn't press any charges or go to police after doing business with Deshaun. Why? They only showed up after a lawyer gathered them all together. Only then did they make claims of assault.

DW didn't sexually assault anyone. If he had sex, it was consensual.

The easiest thing to do would be to pay them a chunk of change and go on with life. Deshaun's commitment to stand firm on what really happened is the key. He is standing firm for one reason and one reason only - he didn't sexually assault anyone. Right or wrong, he paid for a service and service was given.

It's about money. The lawyer and these women want money. They have no interest in throwing him in jail for "assault". They want money. Period.

the only risk is taking him in a trade and then having him suspended by the league.

That could be accounted for in the trade contract.

and as long as he is getting paid, I don't care. He's probably better off getting paid and not playing for now.

If Houston isn't going to play him, then paying him is going to get old quickly.

They'll either trade him or cut him and owe him money. Either one gets him out of Houston.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Watson's future

Nov 4, 2021, 10:33 AM

It's all somewhat of a moot point. Check his contract. That's a 4 year deal for $156 million. He is getting paid to not play at the moment. Nobody can give up 3 first round picks to obtain a player that will expect a similar pay rate and may or may not play. He's set for life or really multiple lifetimes from a financial perspective. The only thing that could derail some of the payments in the last two years is a ruling by the NFL that he has violated the morality clause in his contract. These legal cases will drag out forever. A guilty criminal verdict (unlikely) would just result in an appeal and more delays. He's not going anywhere anytime soon but he's ringing the register. So, he's facing some serious charges and all the civil cases. Some less than stellar behavior has been documented. No suspension or comment from the NFL. Jon Gruden was gone in 1 day after some racist and misogynistic email's from 10 years ago were made public. Double standard? Couldn't say. The legal system will run it's course and then the future of DW will be more clearly defined as the NFL has taken a hands off approach.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Watson's future

Nov 4, 2021, 11:12 AM

Thought Gruden's email was fine maybe his honesty was hurt some feelings. Anyway, I know that wasn't your point and there may be double standard. Gruden's situation feels like he was more of a target. Hope DW gets off & his accusers are sent to prison; hope Gruden gets another NFL HC job.

The first thing he needs to do...

Nov 4, 2021, 10:10 AM

is put these legal issues behind him.

He's reluctant to settle the claims for fear that any such settlement implies guilt on his part which is obviously not the case. Just write the check. Pay the piranhas and their blood-sucking attorney, and just move-on.

Once he gets the legal stuff resolved, the NFL will levy whatever suspension is felt appropriate and DW, along with any potential suitors, will have a clearer view into his future.

Re: The first thing he needs to do...

Nov 4, 2021, 10:24 AM

That could be a double edged sword.

Settlement, being somewhat an admission of guilt, may affect the NFL's decision on what his penalty may be.

If he is worried that a settlement would look worse in the NFL's eyes, and he doesn't want to be reinstated to the Texans to play, then he may be ok letting it go a little further into the offseason to try to resolve things his way.

Re: Watson's future

Nov 4, 2021, 11:20 AM

My thoughts on DW4 being out for an entire season is this, you can take DW4 away from FB for a season or two, but they can't take the FB talent that he has away from him, and they can't take his will to win at the highest level our of his heart.

A season or two away from a team like Houston will be better for DW4 than him getting his body beat up on a team like Houston. He will leave there healthy, in shape, and ready to win a championship wherever he ends up at bc, he won't go to a team that don't have a decent offensive line.

The smartest things that DW4 had put in his new contract was the no trade clause, and it reads,

As part of his contract extension, Deshaun Watson has a no-trade clause. Watson has the ability to reject any trades to teams that he would not wish to be traded to. Therefore, Watson has some power over his potential destination. However, Watson cannot simply decide on his team and make the trade happen.

IMO, Houston has to pay him, or trade him to a team that he will agree to play for!!!!

IMO, the lawsuits or the majority will be settled before the next draft and we will all be reading about a blockbuster trade including DW4. Depending on the finish of several NFL teams, the suitors may increase significantly above and beyond Miami and Carolina.

However, I also think, the longer the Texans wait, the lower their return will be.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'll take that bet...More teams will join in the bidding

Nov 4, 2021, 12:08 PM

before the draft his price will go up...Thinking more teams will bid and the price will go down? How the HeII does that work?

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I'll take that bet...More teams will join in the bidding

Nov 4, 2021, 2:23 PM

The longer he sits the less his value. No one is going to give what the Texans have been asking. About $40 million a year for no returns is going to drive down the Texans request. The rest of the NFL will say so be it, let them pay him but they aren't going to throw away their team's future for him. Watson cost the Texans their first round pick, not 3 like they're asking. If you believe the NFL is a free market, you need to go back to business school. Everything in the NFL is limited one way or another, whether it's base salaries for rookies or team salary caps affecting free agency and player contracts.

Maybe there is a team that will trade it's OL, running back and best WR to get salary cap and give up 3 first round picks. Then DW4 is stuck with another Texans scenario where he will be running for his life every play. Wait a minute, that's where he's at now.

As of right now the only team DW has approved to be traded to is Miami. That could change but that is where it stands right now.
I heard the other day that if there were settlements that DW did not want them to be sealed. Now I’m hearing the settlements are being held up because of disagreement over an NDA. It wasn’t clear who wanted the NDA, DW or the women. Is it possible he wants it all out in the open and the women and that sleazy attorney want an NDA? If so, that would be very telling in my mind.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Watson's future

Nov 4, 2021, 1:23 PM

In my most honest opinion, once that lawyer heard that DW4 wanted out of Texass, that sleazy dirt bag attorney went on a witch hunt in those massage parlors looking for the trash that would agree to conspire a case against DW4 to try and get them all a big pay day from DW4. He had that trash believing they could threaten DW4 into a big out of court settlement.

When DW4 refused to pay up, sleaze bag went on another search to recruit more trash to put more pressure on DW4 that he didn't cave into that either, DW4 probably had already lawyered up, and that's when the sleazy dirt bag leaked it out to public trying apply even more pressure on DW4 to pay. DW4 refused all attempts by the dirt bag to smear his name, and now they are caught between a big rock, and a mountain, bc now they have open themselves up to a counter lawsuit, and if it goes to court, there isn't any, none, no physical evidence to prove DW4 guilty in a court of law, Criminal or Civil.

A trial of public opinion is all they have, and they know it. My honest opinion is that they are hoping that as time goes by in a dead lock, that DW4 will write them a check with closed settlement that would make DW4 look guilty of something, and DW4 knowing that he isn't guilty of anything, and if any payment is paid to end this for the good of all, DW4 is wanting it made public to clear his name, and I don't blame him for that. Plus I bet that DW4 will only agree to attorney fee's, or they can pick a jury bc he is more than ready to defend his name!!!
