Watched the Top Plays on YouTubeTV from the Cuse game

Oct 25, 2022, 8:19 AM

(that's one of my favorite features of YouTubeTV - the Top Plays option!) and noticed something on that last Cuse pass of the game that was intercepted:

It looked like Shrader had a guy nearly wide open going down the left side of the field. It was a one on one. If he had put it over the guy's left shoulder, there's not much our DB could have done. But instead, like the announcers said, he honed in on their top WR (can't remember his name right now), kept his eyes locked on him, threw it into triple coverage and we got the pick to win the game.

People would be all over DJ if roles were reversed, but there's been no talk of Shrader locking in to that one receiver on pretty much the entirety of that last drive. He had much better odds with the guy down the left side, it looked like, and it would have been very easy to step out of bounds to stop the clock.

On another note, did Dino ever address his clock management there at the end? Or why their star RB, Tucker, I think, seemed to go MIA for much of the 2nd half? They can whine about the refs or whatever all they want, but I think what lost that game for Cuse, other than our dominating defense and persistent running game, was poor coaching - bad clock management and bad play calling. I'd be completely confounded if I was a Cuse fan as to why they did what they did in that 2nd half.

I saw & thought same about all these..

but I saw wide open WR on "right" side going into end zone & then waving in disbelief after INT he was wide open.

Oh. did you see how hard Cuse QB threw that ball?!

The rather desperate offensive play by Syracuse on their

Oct 25, 2022, 11:24 AM

final series was the direct result of out trusting Potter to nail that long FG to make the lead 6 points instead of three.

The knowledge that the clock was their enemy with 75 yards to go and no time outs caused them to force things resulting in the poor choice on the interception.

With a field goal as an option, Syracuse would have been a lot more selective on their play calls and would most likely have maneuvered into FG range for the tie and OT.

Potter has been a terrific weapon this year on kick-offs and FGs. Perfect on extra points as well.

We’re going to miss him next year.

The Syracuse boards had plenty of fan criticism of Shrader locking in and failing to see an "open receiver" on his last, intercepted pass attempt.

The view from the stands and the couch is much different

from the view a QB has standing in the pocket or scrambling to stay upright with huge, fast DL in his face.

I saw that guy too but the guy running down the right sideline was even more wide open.
