That was the effect Dabo wanted and why he pulled the trigger. Cuse was crashing down the entire time DJ was in. They were willing to let #5 have 3 yards and hit hits but when Dabo put in cade that strategy was dead.

Why would any other opponent the rest of the season not try what Syracuse did on defense while DJ is playing? I know they have a good secondary, but they don’t have the talent and are undersized up front. ND and others may be more talented on defense and maybe by a lot. So just drop eight and mix in a zone blitz here and there and it’s over for DJ?

Bc DJ isn't always going to be off passing and he's not bad against zone coverage typically bc his wrs sit in between zones. He's typically played well vs zone imo it's the teams that play alot of man that give him issues bc he doesn't throw the ball with anticipation of a wr breaking that consistently yet.

because without the turnovers including the 14 point swing we run the ball down their throats and win by 2 scores.
The drop 8 in zone lets you run the ball and makes the screens work really well so if you don't have a lead and run it it's a dangerous defense.

#15 DOES hesitate long enough for Shipley to slip by him. Why? Because of Cade’s sleight of hand with the handoff. Cade’s timing and carry-through ball motion sells the fake, making 15 hesitate.
So, to answer your question, absolutely not. 5 does not sell the fake as well as Cade; Shipley would have been tackled at the line of scrimmage.
Great observation.

entire secondary toward the weak side. Cuse actually played this right and it didn't matter because the execution was near perfect.
Barring injury teams we face will have to prepare for two quarterbacks. That ought to be a lot of fun, for us.

behind, my jaw dropped when he HOUSED that one!
If nothing else, those plays that Cade got in this game are just more stuff that Notre Dame has to study and prepare for.
Dabo rewards hard work, and playing time is earned. I do believe Cade earned some more with his efforts in this game. DJ will be the starter against ND, but I would be shocked if there is not a planned package for Cade fairly early on. And from that point, Dabo will ride the hot hand in that game. Beyond, the ND results will dictate, I believe.
