1st down? We had a run play, and, from the opposite end of the stadium, I never saw a 1st down sign and the announcer never announced 1st down. Cade spiked the ball, and I was concerned in the moment that he was spiking it on 4h down. Obviously not…just curious where the 1st down call came from, because I never saw the Ref give it. Way too many runs, including the TD by Cade, inside the 10, with no timeouts left, IMHO.

He had the first down easily but the spot was terrible, maybe even behind the line to gain.

I was more concerned that doofus spiked the ball with the clocked already stopped for a first down.

Even watching on TV I never saw a signal from any ref indicating 1st down and also thought Cade may have erroneously spiked it on 4th down.

I thought the same. The side judge that made the call for the spot was standing right beside the first down marker and marked him short. I thought it was a bad spot at the time but definitely he marked it short and hoped we would get it overturned on review. That never happened. That whole sequence was odd. Glad this one went our way.

The only reason he does that immediately is if the first down was achieved

It happened right in front of where I sit and I was convinced he had spiked it on 4th done and was yelling no no no.

I didn't see the 1st down indication either and was yelling don't spike it. Then I saw the 1st down marker with a 1 on it and yelled spike it, spike it.
