Best ACC game ever?

5

Jul 22, 2023, 12:38 PM

Clemson Louisville 2016 hands down for me.

The QB talent was just absurd in that game.

But I’m sure there’s so many, I can’t single out any others.

A few others, Clemson UNC 1981, Clemson UMD

1978, also Clemson FSU 2015 in a slugfest kind of way.

Yes that MD was great if it is the one I am thinking about. There was no tv and the game was shown on the video boards in Littlejohn. Dwight Clark had a great game.

No way to pick one game out of the years because we had great games with Carolina, Maryland and FSU but agree the Deshaun-Lamar game was a Top 5 for sure.

Loved the 78 Maryland game. One of my favorites. Lots of NFL talent on the field that day.

I was on the wooden bleachers in Clemson's 'scoring end zone'

This game was really hyped up due to records and rankings in 1990.

For Clemson, some big ones were... #2 Clemson vs #8 UNC in 1981

Big road win...
Clemson 27 #9 FSU 20 2006

For the rest of the ACC, this game showed the rest of the conference, after going undefeated in conference play for nearly all of their first 5 years, that FSU could be beat...

I was at that 1981 UNC game. When the play was ruled a lateral (36:00 in the video) I was pelted with beer, liquor, and some other questionable fluids. My LAST game at UNC.

Clemson over NCState in 1967

Jul 22, 2023, 7:15 PM

Clemson over NCState 1967.

Clemson came to play. Wind was fierce … Coach Howard called a TO with seconds left in 3rd quarter and the Woofpack punt actually had negative yards. Clemson then went into the wind in the 4th quarter and cranked the yards and won.

First ever Clemson home win over top ten team..

The orange shoes game

That was a good one. Clemson vs Miami 2005 also comes to mind.

Triple overtime loss. Just two teams absolutely giving it everything they had.

That was an incredible shoot out with just about everything imaginable occurring.

My head started spinning after Lamar rushed for that TD to give them the lead I believe.

An unbelievable performance for LJ, but Deshaun at home is nearly impossible to beat.

Clemson at Maryland 1978

Jul 23, 2023, 11:21 AM

Terrific game. Adkins ran 99 yards for TD for the Terps. Clemson hit two big plays -- one to Jerry Butler, one to Dwight Clark. Clemson had a grind-it-out drive in the fourth quarter to take a 28-21 lead. Maryland reached the Clemson 11, but the Tigers pushed them back to the 18. With the game on the line, Maryland coach Jerry Claiborne decided to kick a field goal on fourth down instead of trying to get the tying touchdown. Clemson got one first down to run out the clock and win the ACC ###

Best non-conference would be Clemson at Georgia 1986. Georgia was going in for the win, but a fumble by James Jackson gave the ball back to the Tigers. Rodney Williams was nails on that final drive. Treadwell entered and silenced Sanford Stadium except for the corner/end zone that was all orange.
