Vegas thinks we will lose but projected for orange bowl?

Nov 26, 2013, 8:43 AM

Betting odds are we lose saturday but still projected to go to a BCS bowl? I dont see us losing Saturday just thought it was an odd combination. Any thoughts?

We are still eligible for a BCS bowl as long as we don't drop out of the top 14. Most of the teams the orange bowl will be selecting from will have 2 losses. Because of the Orange bowl tie in most feel they will select an ACC team if FSU goes to the NC.

Doesn't really matter when we beat SCar.

Orange Bowl will always prefer an ACC team

Even if we have 2 losses--which we will not--both of them will have been to Top-10 teams, and we most likely wouldn't fall out of the top 12 of the BCS.

We better win. I would count on a BCS bowl if we lose. In fact I'd be syrprised since our win over Ga has now lost some luster based on their season. We will play three good tams in the regular - Ga, FSU, Coots. Losses to two of three wouldnt do us much good.

Vegas odds don't have anything to do with winning or losing

Nov 26, 2013, 8:50 AM

point spreads are based on where they will get even money. They don't predict games or outcomes.

I'm amazed how many dont understand this. even folks in the sports reporting business. it is like they think a group of experts sits in a room predicting scores.

The best way to explain this common misconception

is to point out that the line MOVES. Why would the line move if someone has already analyzed the game and predicted the outcome? The line is set to public perception hoping that the same amount of money gets bet on both sides. When that happens, the bookies are guaranteed 5% of the total wagers (10% of the losers and 0% of the winners).

When the money doesn't come in evenly, they adjust the spread to encourage people to bet the other side.
