UNC, Duke, Louisville

3

Oct 18, 2023, 1:52 PM

Duke most likely losses: FSU (This week), Louisville, UNC

UNC: Duke, Clemson, NC St

Louisville: Duke, VT, Miami

Virginia Tech and GT are also above us, but I don’t expect them to still be there.

What we want to happen:

Duke loses 3 times. Either to the teams I listed on their schedule, or maybe including someone else who beats them. We just need them with 3 losses.

UNC needs 2 losses. UNC needs to beat Duke because we need Duke to have more losses than UNC. As well as the fact that Clemson plays UNC and can own a tiebreak over UNC. So as long as UNC loses to Clemson and one other opponent, we are over them.

Louisville just lost to Pitt, so they are just not legit. But, they probably have the easiest remaining schedule out of the 3 teams I’ve mentioned.

FSU beats Duke, Louisville/UNC beats Duke, and Wake/UVA/Pitt beats Duke. Duke will then have 3 losses.

UNC loses to Clemson, and loses one more. I think UNC is a good team though, we just have to hope for the best.

Louisville loses to VT/Miami/remaining ACC opponent to get them to 2 losses.

If there is a more likely scenario, let me know.

You have Duke losing to Louisville and Louisville losing to Duke. That might help us but not sure it will happen ;)

I didn’t say that anywhere lol what do you mean

I said we need Duke to lose to Louisville.

And for Louisville to lose to VT/Miami/remaining ACC opponents (other than Duke which is UVA). But Louisville won’t lose to UVA.

I didn’t actually clarify that “Remaining ACC opponents” did not include Duke because we need Louisville to beat Duke.

You have Louisville after the Duke colon of (likely losses) and then Duke after the Louisville colon so it looks a bit confusing.

Well those are just their “most likely” losses. That’s not representing a scenario that works for Clemson. Sorry abt that

Absolutely not

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We don't need Duke to lose 3

3

Oct 18, 2023, 2:21 PM

We need a 3 or more way tie for second and that's more likely to happen than for us to be in a 2 way tie for 2nd and Duke not be one of them. Also more likely than us being the only 2nd place team.

We need:

Clemson to win out
FSU to win out
Duke lose one game in addition to FSU
Louisville lose one more game
UNC lose one game in addition to Clemson

BUT we need Wake and Cuse to win some games to get that 5th tie breaker.

Duke beat Clemson. If they tied with 2 losses, Duke is in over Clemson. Duke must have 3 losses.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's only in a 2 way tie between Duke and Clemson

4

Oct 18, 2023, 2:32 PM

In a 3 way tie that includes Duke and Clemson the H2H does not matter unless Duke also beat the third team as well.

Re: That's only in a 2 way tie between Duke and Clemson

2

I'll give you an example.

If FSU and Clemson win out

and

Louisville beats Duke and loses to Miami

and UNC loses to Duke

Then

FSU is 8-0
Clemson is 6-2
Louisville is 6-2
UNC is 6-2
and Duke is 6-2

In this 4 way tie, the 4 are not common opponents so H2H record does not apply. Also, none of the 4 beat all other 3 so that does not apply. It would come down to ACC Opponent's combined win pct.

Really? Wow okay.

I just did a quick scan of Clemson and the other 3 teams’ schedules.

It seems as if it would come down to Clemson and Duke in regard to them having the tougher schedules out of the 4.

Louisville would be toast in that 4-way tie. They have an awful schedule.

I can actually do that math. Actually, let me know which out of those 4 would be most likely to have the highest opponent winning percentage. And I will calculate if.

Re: That's only in a 2 way tie between Duke and Clemson

Oct 18, 2023, 4:06 PM

Yes, I'd like to assume that Wake and Cuse (who Duke does not play) will win some games here on out and UVA and Pitt (who Clemson does not play) will lose more.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would not assume those 2 teams to have a better record

Oct 18, 2023, 4:42 PM

than Pitt and UVA. WF O is awful. UVA seems to be playing ok and their FR qb is going to only keep getting better. They should have beat NCSU(lost by 3 late) and only lost by 3 to BC. Not great ACC teams but still tells me they are on the verge of getting a W or 2. I expect them to steal a game or 2 in their last 5 or so ACC games. Pitt will likely look better coming off UL win. Also, don't forget Duke's schedule will include a bump from UL that ours won't have. Duke plays the more difficult schedule of all 4 IMO and I think the records will end up showing that in the end. Would be best if they picked up a 3rd loss somewhere however it really feels like we need them to beat UNC as UNC's next best opportunity to lose is probably UNC at GT. I don't see State as a threat to beat UNC as their O is just too anemic against any decent P5 team to hang in that game.

my 24 tix to the ACCCG, just yet?

I’ve bought ever since the 2015 win over UNC. Back then it was the Dr Pepper 4 for $100! You got 4 tickets, 4 ACC ball caps, and 4 $5 Bojangles gift cards for your 100 bucks. I’ve bought every year in August since then (sadly no longer the 4 fer $100) and only missed the NC “bathroom” year, the Pitt v Wake game and the Notre Dame “Covid” game. ACC gave refunds on the bathroom and ND games and I was able to sell all 24 of my Pitt tix - sold at face value for what I paid with no Ticketmaster fees - so actually a good bargain. Notre Dame game is the one game I really hate that I missed - but I have tix to the Nov 4th game at DV.

It’s actually less expensive to go to the ACCCG than Clemson home games. Not only are tix cheaper but parking is like $15 -$20 around BOA in Charlotte - and I need like six parking passes.

I use the ACCCG as a family get together for my children, grands, and two nieces and a nephew and their families. Can’t beat it for a pre Christmas gathering!

Go Tigers!

Man I’m going to be pulling hard but have you watched our O , it’s sometimes putrid.
Plus we have not stopped a great QB in a long time.
The UNC QB is championship good, we will not be able to keep up. ND and UNC are sure loses unless something drastic happens.

The chances of the second team in the acccg being a team decided by tie-breaker is easily 70%, just really depends on if it’s a 2, 3, or 4 way tie.
