8/30 -This Day in Tiger Football History

Aug 30, 2017, 9:57 AM

August 30th has not been a good day for the Tigers, with a couple of unimpressive opening game showings to open highly anticipated seasons, including a recent 34-10 loss to Alabama in 2008 (a game most all of us can admit was uglier than the score indicated). The lone bright spot was a CJ Spiller Kickoff Return for a TD that was so fast, he lost everyone in the frame.

If the opposite could ever be true for a 30-0 loss, this was the case in 2003, when Georgia opened the season at Death Valley on the hottest day in the recorded history of time. With the score 16-0 in the 4th QTR, Clemson had the ball near the goal line with a chance to cut the lead to within 1 score. But Georgia DL David Pollack picked off a Charlie Whitehurst pass that all but sealed Clemson's fate in a 30-0 sobering defeat.

the game the Saturday after the Labor Day FSU game. It was a quick turnaround, the players and the fans were tired, it was a noon or 1 kick, and it was HOT

UGA game in '03 was the worst experience...

I've ever had in Death Valley. Had great seats, but it was torture to sit there in that hellish heat and watch an unprepared Bowden team come out and underachieve... something we would see again and again during his tenure.

If Spiller and Davis had been juniors on the team last season they would have both been top-10 1st round draft picks this year. Spiller probably would have won a Heisman.

ugh. Bowden sucked

slightly above average as a recruiter, well below average as a coach. one of his other biggest downfalls was hiring bad assistant coaches (other than Swinney, of course): Jack Hines, Rodney Allison, Rob Spence to name a few.

yeah. His Gameday X's and O's left something to be desired
