Is it time to recalibrate what we see and hear

One of David Hood's articles got me to thinking. He, and several others, often pass along tidbits and nuggets that tell us how the O or D win the day in practice or scrimmage. When both sides of the ball are elite, that means something. When both sides of the ball are good (but not great), it might not mean as much.

Similarly, I wonder if seeing "flashes" of players could be similarly interpreted? If a WR "flashes" against an elite D, that means something. When a WR flashes against a good (but not great) D, maybe not.

Trust me, I live for those tidbits and nuggets and those comments are coming from people that know a lot more about football than I do. However, I'm wondering if instead of iron sharping iron each day, is it possible that plastic dulls plastic, and we need to meter our excitement over the practice and scrimmage reports?

Still pulling for them to have a great season! Go Tigers.

Typically, over the years I ignore practice reports,

preferring to see what happens on the gridiron.

That's because few, if any, coaches of any teams are going to say their teams look bad in practices. Proof of that was evident last night.

To me the first problem is one of discipline, discipline that instills a mental, emotional and physical toughness that shows on the field. A blind man could have seen we lacked that last night, not only with our team, but within our staff.

I'd pack up the whole crowd and send them to Parris Island for a few days, turning them over to DI's. They'd either leave ready to eat nails or go home with bags in hand, crying to their Mamas.

And, as in any endeavor, all problems are traceable right up to the top. Thus, the first person off the bus at P.I. would be our HC, followed by the staff and team. Perhaps, that's the old Infantry Airborne in me, but I know what a tough, hard-assssed DI can do to a crowd of self-doubters. Self-doubters were what I saw last night.

Let me simplify this for those out there that lost hours of sleep last night wondering what in the hayull Clemson put out on the field.

Bad Vs Bad = Bad

Practice reports and intel

Are really nothing more than koolaid to get us through the summer.

Don’t get me wrong, I read everyone of them but I’ve come to find out a long time ago that they’re pointless. I think even more so with Clemson because of how tight knit this program is.

I mean David Hood’s last comment before the game was he reached out to someone inside the program to get a feel and they replied “confident”. Geez, we were anything BUT last night.

The coaches spin a narrative.

Clemson football is a business. This website is a business. Pumping sunshine brings the most number of people with their wallets attached.

And on occasion when David Hood has written an article that is just the least bit critical, he gets drawn and quartered by the fans here on TigerNet.

Besides, he has to pick his spots because Dabo - if he chooses - can remove TNet from favored nation status. And there goes any and all original content.

I've reached the point that I don't believe anything I hear from practices. I wait for the games and make my own decision because the nonsensical euphoric reports we get every spring and summer are never accurate in a game environment.

I have said for a number of years now that we are being lied to re: players, practices and potential of these teams. The sunshine pumping at Clemson is off the charts and out of control.
