State, local and school officials and 1st responders

Have predetermined protocols for weather and other regional events. These protocols are well thought out and take into account many safety factors from floods, road conditions (wet, ice, snow), visibility, wind, pedestrian traffic, vehicle traffic, emergency response capabilities etc. Closure and cancellation decisions are based on analysis of an array of factors that impact public safety.
Think of the consequences if a school bus skids off the road into a swollen river or a ravin. Or if a dump truck hydroplanes into a school crossing or crowded sidewalk. Or if there’s a large multi vehicle pile up on a Interstate due to ice or a white out. 1st responders may be inhibited from timely response to these emergencies due to weather and road conditions.
Having participated in community emergency response workshops and hurricane preparedness and response activities, public safety officials are competent and take their responsibilities seriously.

a freaking weather man. Ben Tanner, alone, cost the Richland County area about 5% of GDP until he was finally fired. On Friday, absolutely zero school buses would have flipped from wind, statewide.
As a kid I do not recall any school buses ever flipping. EVEN when 18 year old seniors drove them. We played on the playground when it was 25 degrees, or 105 degrees. We all survived, unscathed. I even drank from the water hose and stood up on my mother's front seat in her car. Not only without a child seat, but without an air bag, or a car seat, or wearing a seat belt.
I should be dead I guess. Any other GenX folks out there walking dead like me? I would say it's a miracle I survived, but almost everyone else I know, also survived.

Otherwise raging against public safety officials is weak sauce.
Taking individual risk on your own accord is fine. Risk decisions that impact others, especially large numbers, is a different game.

Or cold, or hot. More importantly, what kind of example does this set?
And ANOTHER THING.......when I was a kid I had nightmares, literal NIGHTMARES about going to school in my pajamas. I would dream I was at school, class started, and everyone was pointing at me and whispering and giggling. I'd look down and I'm in my PAJAMAS, at school! Massively embarrassing.
Today, several times a year I drop my kids off at school in their pajamas for "Pajama Day". ###?
