Today’s date kind of fun. First, the Treaty of Tordesillas of 1494 split the globe, well, the New World at least, between Spain and Portugal, because who da fuq else mattered? It was issued by the Pope to stop a war over what Columbus discovered and who it actually belonged to. Sure as he77 not the people that lived there, amirite? But it only solved the front half of the globe. The back half still had to be divvied up years later with the Treaty of Zaragoza. The line happens to be right about where this young lady's hair part is.



But forget all that shizz...because something much more fun happened on this day in 1934.

Hit ler rose to power on the back of an insanely brutal street fighter named Ernst Rohm who liked to settle disagreements with clubs and broken bottles. But soon enough Hit ler got elected to power, and no self respecting politician could be seen associating with such a callous brute. Plus, Rohm's sexual interests got under Hit ler’s skin. So, he got his new blackshirt buds under Himmler to whack his old friends, the Ernst Rohm brownshirt crew. Since Rohm swung both ways I need to specify whack with like, guns.





Known under the soothing code name of “Operation Hummingbird” the purge took about 3 days and may have killed over a thousand of Hit ler's old brownshirt buddies. But really, what good is an old friend when he's no longer politically useful, you know? Despite the use of guns and its duration, this purge is usually known by another name. What is it?
