5-Star elite Olineman by most recruiting services in 2021. I don’t recall hearing much about him post spring ball. Why the redshirt last year when our line was struggling? Was he injured?

He’s a OT, when Parks and McFadden leave we’ll probably start hearing his name more

He had to get stronger and he didnt come in early. I think he came in at 270 something too. Its not surprising he redshirted. I expected to hear more about him this year though. No news at all. We will probably hear about him in a few weeks though. I bet he starts as a redshirt sophomore and gets plenty of PT this year in the 2nd half of games.

I didn't see your post yesterday, and woke up today thinking the same thing.
I would have though that, after a year as a redshirt, we would have heard more positive news out of the spring.
Certainly hope he's progressing, and not frustrated with how his career has started. I was expecting more of a "Jackson Carmen" level of talent.

Maybe we have more talent at OT now and he is waiting his turn?

Good point. Even Mitch Hyatt would have probably had a

red shirt year if the cupboard hadn’t been absolutely bare at LT that season.
We’re much deeper all across the entire OL than we were back then. We have a bunch of talented guys waiting their turn while they get bigger, stronger, and more experienced.

I believe that he does have Carman-level talent...Just not Carman-level size, yet. Those extra 40-50 lbs are needed in the trenches. Future is still bright for Leigh.

The 2021 class had a lot of guys that didn’t have a 2020 high school season due to COVID. So some players like Triston came in out of shape. So I think he’ll start getting more reps this fall and be ready for 2023

He’s currently 2nd on the depth chart behind McFadden..we may see Leigh get some reps at LT or RT if any of our guards struggle and McFadden has to go back to Guard where he’s honestly better suited.

If we find answers at G without him than we may be in really good shape. Tate and Pennington are the two to keep an eye on, Tate already a known commodity of course. But they could be the big people movers in the middle we've been lacking.

McFadden and Parks are pretty darn good. I believe Leigh as the backup LT coming out of spring. Depth chart probably looks like this…
LT: McFadden - Leigh LG: Tate - Williams OC: Putnam - Linthicum RG: Pennington or Mayes - Tucker RT: Parks - Mayes

That’s a nice looking 2 deep. Even more exciting when you realize there are a couple not on the list that are talented, and will grow into productive linemen.
