of the program. Football is cyclical and you folks have short memories.
Deshaun Watson era - first round draft pick, won one title and was part of a three year cycle that saw us in 2 playoffs. His freshman year he came into the FSU game when it was tied and lost the game. One of the greatest to ever wear the uniform finished 10-3 that year. A calamitous outcome by today’s appraisal.
Kelly Bryant Era - CFP playoff, made a final, but this fanbase demonized him for not being Watson. Ended abruptly in year 2.
Trevor Lawrence - overtook KB. Three straight CFPs. #1 overall draft pick. 2 CFP Finals. 1 National championship.
DJU - the lowest season average qbr for a Clemson qb, not just since Watson but since Kyle Parker’s broken rib 2010 6-7 season. By all appearances the pounding he took against Georgia permanently rattled him.
Cade - his abilities are obviously improving with every game. A true sophomore who is developing rapidly and it’s reflected in his numbers.
Anybody that thought we were gonna make the playoff’s in perpetuity just because of the head coach’s salary was off their rocker. We might have limped into the CFP with DJU last year. But we all know that would have been the end of the line. Cade is starting to look like a qb that can win those kind of games.

2-3 transfers/year would have filled holes in the roster and put us in the playoffs.
Instead, we are going to struggle to win 8 games.

Swap Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson with Beaux Collins and Adam Randall.
Clemson wins that game by 21+
Cade played great, despite having one of the worst WR cores in the conference. I can only imagine how good he would be with good WRs.

Cade can’t play great without good receiver play. Maybe our wide receivers are starting to look better because they finally have a legit qb throwing to them after 2 years of highly suspect qb play.

Beaux is fine. We all love Tyler. Stellato showed us something. Hopefully Antonio heals up quick.
Adam Randall and Brannon Spector are terrible.
This is a bad WR core. And it has been since Grisham took over for Jeff.

The most productive receiving season in Clemson history was Grishams first year.
Then two years of DJ. Obviously he was the primary reason for a less productive receiver group.
Now, Cade. New system, new coach. We’re distributing the ball to many, many receivers and the production is coming back.

That 2017 team won despite KB. He managed to throw for 13 TDS in 13 games lol. And he managed that while throwing to Hunter Renfrow, Deon Cain, Ray Ray McCloud, Tee Higgins, and Amari Rodgers. We would have made the playoffs the previous three seasons with that WR core. Our defense was great and the conference was terrible.

Last year and went to the portal. But you guys demonize deon sanders for doing that exact thing in Colorado. When someone gets hurt and ends their career but Dabo honors their scholarship so they can stay in school he’s a hero but now y’all want him to throw that guy out and go to the portal. Hunter Renfrow would have been cut if we did what everyone says and didn’t give walk on’s a scholarship. I would like to see us get some portal guys but Dabo is not going to promise a starting job before they step on campus and that’s what they want. Then y’all will b!tch and moan when the portal guys we get are second stringers from some less than worthy team. It’s all just so hypercritical it’s ridiculous.

He had the top kicker in the class and 2 under class kickers and a veteran kicker departed because his command over the postion seemed so certain. Exactly what credible kicker was looking to portal in as a backup. Your ideas have no merit. Our WRs are not gamechangers........period.
our WRs probably played their A+ game today...........yet we still lost. Our WRs ceiling is extremely low. When our "REAL WRs" had their "A games" back in our 2015-2019 days we obliterated people.
We're NOWHERE CLOSE to what we used to be. We're pretty much worse at every position offensively compared to 2015-2019 era of Clemson football.

Are you serious? How did Dabo know Gunn would stink it up in games. Our starting cornerback got hurt at the end of the game. That’s why Coleman caught that ball. We don’t need transfers. We need to finish drives and win the turnover margin. We outplayed FSU.

Let me know when you find that portal kicker that wanted to sit behind Gunn. He had dominated practice and ran off the competition. He wasn’t the only kicker on campus. And, if had found a backup portal kicker, you guys would have flipped the #### out about using a scholarship on a backup kicker.

It wasn’t WRs , it was QB.
When they did work hard DJ either didn’t see them or he couldn’t get it to them. Then, except for Antonio Williams, tge WRs mostly stopped working for DJ.
Not the same this year.
And there are currently no 2-deep players we’d bench for a magic portal kid.
We didn’t lose a single game the last two seasons because of the magic portal, unless you’re talking about replacing the most important position on the field.

I am not on the transfer bandwagon. FSU did not dominate the game today with all their transfers. The biggest tranfer flag bearer of them all just got it butt kicked by Oregon.
Turnovers are our biggest problem not tranfers. That is coaching.

Clemson dominated FSU today, but just as at Duke, made too many critical errors.
Again, inconsistency at key moments at QB is the biggest telling issue between winning and losing.

what did Cade do today that made you think that? because ANYONE who takes that hit as they're about to throw is probably going to fumble. DW4 made stupid mistakes ALL THE TIME!!!! and so did TL6. We missed the playoffs by one game last year. We gave the eventual national champion the only seriously competitive game they had the entire season. All with the worst qb rating since 2010, but it isn’t qb play its coaches and portal. Got it.

If you’re going to hold all our players at that level (generational talent) then you’re out of your skull.
In the previous 2 seasons we’re 5th in P5 wins.
In the previous 3 seasons we’re 4th in P5 wins.
We lost 5 games in two seasons and suddenly we’re in a free fall? Gimme a break. No teams remain at the very top )like we did with Bama) every single year.
Sometimes you basically lose two years with substandard QB play, and STILL miss the playoffs by one win last year.
The big thing in the last 4 losses was (ad nauseum) Clemson beating Clemson, that’s the bottom line.
So yeah, we had the DJ era and two crazy games this year where we beat ourselves. It’s easy to see we could be 4-0 based on not making our mistakes.
So no, we have suddenly turned to crap because of any adaption issues or the coaches. It’s a cyclical thing combined with us screwing the pooch in the redzone.

QB held the ball too long and corner blitz separated him from the ball for a scoop and score. QB threw multiple times into double coverage and should have had 3 picks, Threw the ball when should have been running the ball to run out the clock and win. Bad, bad plays that shows bad judgement but I agree, it can only get better .... I hope.

Todays issue was poor coaching in crucial spots, a missed assignment by the RB on the fumble scoop and score, and our FG kicker. There is more to this team losing than just having another generational QB.

Because coaches make decisions that don’t work in every game. When you’re losing those decisions get microanalyzed and people start screaming about portals and incest. The difference was we had qbs that could play us out of deficits. Everyone acting like Venables never played prevent. It’s stupid. Are qb was not playoff worthy the last two years. Are first year starter (not counting 2 games last year) deserves time to grow into the role. Todays performance was the best qb we’ve seen since sometime before Lawrence’s LSU game. DJU’s one highlight reel game against Wake is not worthy of comparison today.

for us to win. We out played FSU in every part of the game. Today came down to coaching. When you go 3-down, it doesnt matter how many 5* you have on D. When you go conservative and settle for a FG, it doesnt matter who you have on O. We coached scared and not to lose rather than cutting the guys loose for the full 60-minutes. I think we were good enough to look like a playoff team today and got held back.

Cade threw for 283 yards against FSU. In two full seasons as a starter, DJU threw for more than that once - against WF (since that was the one game I used as a caveat it should be pretty obvious I wasn’t comparing Cade to Lawrence and simply meant to say Ohio State / not LSU). Cade completed 65.8% of his passes, a figure bested by DJU 3 times in two seasons against FBS opponents. The 11.34 yards per catch would rank as 7th best of DJU’s career at Clemson but is better than any performance against a ranked opponent. So, you can focus on my mistake about which opponent was Trevor’s last or acknowledge that I was correct about the improving quality of our qb play. Pretty sure which direction you’ll go. But since you think you know the play calls better than our head coach I’m not gonna take it personally.

I think the difference is the play calling and staff hires/promotions add salt to the wounds. I’m perfectly happy with competitive 9 win seasons. But the losses we have are inexcusable. I never thought we’d even be a playoff team this year. Not for a second. But to lose the way we have is insane given we have an $11mil coach and the friends and family staff plan

Dabo is paid commiserate with his accomplishments. The constant references to his salary just seem petty and jealous. Our staff are compensated commiserate with their experience. Our overall staff budget wasn’t even in the top 10 last year. Can’t find numbers for this year yet. We went big on an oc from outside the program. Apparently that’s not working either. And our defense is top 10 and will still be there after today. These emotional attacks aren’t grounded in anything. Just cry and literally I think I deserve to only ever see wins - it would be more honest.

Even though we lost we played great. But we are on a downhill trajectory. We just are. I don’t feel a need to take the pressure off those paid to keep us on top. Like you said they are well paid. But there’s no guarantee of staying on top, even after you establish yourself on top. It requires relentless commitment to being elite. And not complacently saying well we used to suck and now we’re spoiled expecting to stay there. Staying is a commitment, and does not allow room for promoting friends and family. Or passing on newly available advantages your opponents are using against you. Anyway, I’m all in on whatever we are in for. I’ve enjoyed the ride since the 70’s.

No, but today’s performance was actually more encouraging, despite the loss, than anything we’ve since then. The Duke game was a major concern because here was the 2nd new qb since our CFP run who looked really bad in his season debut as starter. But he’s gotten better every week and against the best competition he has faced yet he had the best game of his career. Something about babies and bath water.

No, that sucks. And I know you can read so I know that you know that wasn’t my point. The DJU era sucked. It’s now the Cade era. I do t think it’s fair to make the CFP the minimum expectation in his first full season as a starter. There were plenty of signs today that Garrett Riley is making progress, that Cade is making progress, and that receivers are making progress. The turnovers and FG issues are ugly but don’t really relate to the most common complaints being swung around here. I feel better today than I did after the Duke game. Would I rather have won? Sure, at 4-1 with a win over #4 FSU we’d all think we were on our way back this season. But if we keep seeing progress like this each week we’re going to see a pretty freaking great team by the end of the year.

I was so proud of the Clemson players yesterday!
Anybody that couldn’t see their spirit and effort are just blind! We had some ridiculous reffing but that is the norm for our Tigers…. Still they never gave up they fought until the end and we need to pull them up as a Clemson nation after what was a terrific effort and a crushing loss! I love my Tiger Team🐅🧡
