To Don Munson....

Oct 15, 2014, 10:43 AM

I listened Saturday and one other game here is my critique.
1. Know your own players names and numbers to the point where you have quicker recognition and flow.
2. Know at least the starters of the opposition. I heard alot of "he gives it to the big back........Brown...."
3. Don't forget to toss in the advertismenets at every opportunity. (keeps the mic plugged in!)
4. Practice
I like the tone of your voice. It is pleasant to the ear (in terms of octive) You need work on making the broadcast flow.
I think you can get there. I thought you should have been given the job when they gave it to Yannity.
Oh yeah, never say "there's orange in the endzone!"

Go Tigers!!

The best advice I could give to Don Munson is

Oct 15, 2014, 11:03 AM

to listen to old Jim Phillips games. Don has to recreate a lost art.

http://www.thestate.com/2013/09/07/2966950/clemson-names-radio-booth-in-honor.html

On the concrete wall behind producer Kevin Smith hangs a twice-life-sized picture of the late Jim Phillips, who for 36 years was “The Voice of the Tigers,” in a way modern radio broadcasters are not.

Before wall-to-wall TV coverage and social media, generations of the school’s “subway alumni” — many of whom never set foot on Clemson’s campus — counted on Phillips to be their eyes and ears.

Rogers, 44, knows the impact of “The Voice.” Growing up near Mullins as a lifelong Tigers fan, he vividly recalls listening to Phillips’ call of Clemson’s 16-10 win at Notre Dame. “(Phillips said) ‘There’s a lot of orange in South Bend today, and all of them are on their feet,’?” said Rogers, who was 10 at the time.

“Those guys — Jim, (North Carolina’s) Woody Durham, (USC’s) Bob Fulton — that was radio,” he said. “It’s a different era now.”
