He has a thousand lives and must have a huge bank account. I would retire.

i think this definitely shows its not what you know.......but who you know.....it dont matter how many 5 starts you have on defense if they constantly out of position and not well coached

Seems like a good fit to me. Imagine all of Steele’s crazy

Feb 14, 2023, 11:57 AM

blitz packages if he’s got the fastest players on the field. He and Nick use the same nomenclature, too…easy for ol man Saban to dabble.

I think people tend to only look at his last season at Clemson, and specifically his final game here and forget that we had a pretty good defense during his first 2 seasons here. We were #24 in total defense in 2009 and #13 in 2010.

I was at Clemson at that time and I don't remember us playing any offensive juggernauts in either of those seasons. I think Auburn in 2010 was the only one, but they really didn't come together until game 7 since the offense had a bunch of young players and a transfer QB who needed a little longer to get the season.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying he shouldn't have been fired after the Orange Bowl(he should have) or that he's anywhere near as good as BV(he's not) but you could split hairs about the level of offenses played against most years. I was only pointing out that it's not as if his defense was getting lit up during his entire tenure here or anything.

He was an above average DC but against really good passing teams he was horrible. I was at the WVU nightmare at the Orange Bowl and he virtually never blitzed and let Geno Smith stand back and pick us apart. When I saw Dabo coaching the defense I knew Steele would be gone. Brent Venables was the best DC Clemson University ever had and proved what could happen with an attacking defense. Sure miss him , he will do well at OU.

Kevin Steele is garbage. Ask any of his former players. He will walk past guys he coaches without acknowledging their existence and then he expects them to play hard for him. Kevin Greene should have finished him off when he had him in a choke hold.

…has the ability to close the sale of his own ineptitude.

He is a LEGEND in this market of coaches.

He is giving worn out jeans a bad name, despite their popularity. I am UNABLE to get past that Orange Bowl against WVU. I’m sorry, but I can’t let that slide.

I’m not sure why Saban let that incident go.
