Not quite sure what that all means but I'm up for any good change. I'm excited about this year! Go tigers!

Same here but I like shoving it down the opponent’s throat though. I take that as keep your foot on the gas.

I took it as continuing to run the ball when that is what is working best against a particular opponent. And being able to line up and play big boy football to get a yard when you need to. And that sounds good to me.

Reading that I flashed to the 2018/2019 Championship game when we ran 10+ minutes off the clock in the 4th quarter to end the game, taking our time but getting 1st down after 1st down, including some short runs to get 2-3 yards at a time, but they added up.

14 plays, 94 yards (started on our own 1 yd line), 10:02, took a knee to end the game inside their 10.

That was amazing and an amazing show of sheer power. I don't know what else Dabo mightve done differently, but it was humiliating to Bama.

And during that last sustained drive against Bama that took 10:02 to churn down the field, I will always believe that IF Coach Swinney had looked at TL16 and simply pointed into the endzone, the score would have been 51-16. I don't know much but I KNOW we could have hung more on Saban that glorious night. And cue the goose bumps - Go Tigers !!

Amen- I am also excited for the year. I think the D can return to dominance and really excited to see if we can't return to a dynamic offense that uses the entire field but can also get a yard to 2 when needed! Love "the chad" coming back to share new ideas, if nothing else he was innovative so while Riley clearly runs the show, Chad can throw in some ideas and be a great set of eyes on both sides of the ball.
We need to return to the national stage!
Go Tigers

If the "O" could just average 3-4 points more per game and, when they don't score; just pick up 2 or 3 first downs per series and eliminating the "3 and outs" ... giving the "D" a little rest ... the CFP is not unrealistic.

What you said is so important … end games with the ball

2

Jul 30, 2023, 1:06 PM

…in our possession. Not sweating biting our nails as the opponent drives for the potential winning score.

Get those big first downs to move the chains with the clock running and the score in our favor.

So frustrating the last couple of years to watch us have the ball and the lead and go into a fetal position offensively resulting in a punt and an excruciating finish while the defense fights (usually successfully) to preserve the win.

Finish games aggressively on offense with the lead.

DH, the beginning of the article sounded like our beloved Vice President had written it. You came back strong after the first 2 paragraphs and we didn't have to endure her signature cackle. Keep up the fine work. I look forward to greatness from you and our young men this season. Let's go Paws!!!

Not that I don't believe him, not at all. After all, he had a dang good showing last year. But after the past couple of years, I just can't wait to see it on the field.

What this translates to is: We do not have DJ anymore throwing balls in the dirt or over the heads of receivers, so we should score more....

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Two principles he gave.

Jul 30, 2023, 1:05 PM

1. Get the ball to an athlete in space.
2. It's not about what we (coaches) know, it's about what they (players) know.

1 explained. Riley knows that Clemson has great athletes. With the exception of a couple of games every year Clemson will have superior athletes. The job of the offensive gameplan is to develop a scheme where "our athletes can out athlete their athletes."

2. explained. Gotta teach the kids to execute. Doesn't matter how good a play is, if the kids can't execute it, don't run it. Figure out what the kids can do best and then let them do it.

The ability to blend 1 and 2 together separates great coaching staffs from good coaching staffs.

I am excited to how this offense develops. I think it will not just be an air raid offense but running the ball since he said “shove it down their throats”. Also taking what the defense gives you which would include running the ball.

Riley’s comments about CK2 got my attention. Encouraging while also being sober.

In essence, Riley is attempting to set Clemson Nation’s expectations that CK2 is not a finished product, and that mistakes are to be expected. Also, that improvement is also expected (saying that CK2 has the inherent attributes to be an excellent player).

Overall, a very diplomatic way to let us know that a learning curve is in process here, and for us to not lose our minds when some mistakes from inexperience happen.

(*). Nothing implied that we should be expecting some head-scratching losses. If one or two head-scratchers happen, then don’t burn down Death Valley.
