Maybe the reason we're losing these recruits are because the other schools are willing to throw more NIL opportunities at them... seems suspicious lose two prospects that quickly. Maybe Clemson thought they had them hooked, and stopped recruiting them hard. Hate we lost the O line recruits.

Safe travels for Gideon and family. Thanks for the update David, Hopefully we'll get good news on Gipson and Hampton soon and Matthews in the fall.

especially on the OL.

Look at the experience, recruits we currently have all OL

We are loaded as well as we have ever been, these kids want to walk in starting. If you were a recruit wanting to play quickly you wouldn’t pick Clemson right now unless you are confident your better than the rest.

Our success last season & seasons before is hurting our recruiting in the want to play now. 4-5 star guys want to be the guy & OL takes a while at a high level.

We’ll be ok even if Dabo has to go to the portal, Clemson is looking good.

It will help when everyone sees the success of our football team this offense is going to rocket 🚀

I really hope you are right… only problem with the portal…

Is typically by the time a player enters the portal they already have had illegal and unofficial conversations with another school about getting picked up by them. Dabo and Clemson won’t play that game, nor the NIL enticement game, so they are always on the outside looking in. I get trying to play by the rules but if no one else I and there is no penalty for not doing so, then the rules are useless and you gotta join everyone else. Otherwise you are being a sucker!

Despite the coaches' best efforts, I think we are paying the price for a couple of less than sterling years. Some of the high school hot shots clearly prefer to go to teams either on the top or rising and closer to it than they imagine Clemson to be.

How do you explain Florida then?***

Year in and year out B1G schools have the
best o lines in the country. Mostly due to
their physical style of play running the ball.

They currently have 4 Oline commits in
this years class.

Our guys should get on the phone and put a bug

Westphal:

Went to UF because the donor based cashed in (these same folks had a $13-million dollar deal in the works for a QB this past January that fell through.) He was offered over the weekend, and he 100% took the bag.

UF is 75-51 in the last decade, has had 8x head coaches, has gone 6-7 in both of Napiers seasons - - and the OLINE coach at UF is a second year coach/former player (Darnell Stapleton), just like Clemsons.

Point is, you don't reject winning programs for those that aren't - unless you're paid handsomely to do so.

Satterwhite:

He was 1 of 20+ recruits for his position at Tennessee. He was 1 of 4 at Clemson. Being "special" didn't mean much to him. Tennessee also got to him 4 months before Clemson did. UT's OLINE coach has a far longer coaching history that does Clemson's (Glen Elarbee) and has recruited well.

He was also offered by UGA, PSU, Bama and about 25 more.

Tennessee nor Florida are going to back down from paying for a 4/5 star athlete.

I know people are trying to spin it and make it a positive

But there’s no way that it’s not horrible news for the offensive line. 14 offers and only one chose us. Not a good sign. It’s why we’re so selective. Also it’s not just about money. These schools don’t forget to mention money until the last moment. It’s part of their pitch the entire time. So that’s an excuse. Plus Dabo and this coaching staff can tell early on who we can get and can’t get because of NIL deals and who’s after just money.

Oh well. 2025 will now become a absolutely vital year for recruiting offensive linemen. We had better hit it out of the park.

National championship.

I did comment on a conversation about recruiting. Why is it on this board it’s “Go Tigers! Everything is perfect! We can do no wrong! You’re just a coot” when someone mentions that we’re struggling in this area right now? I didn’t say “I hate Clemson” lol. Geez. Lol. It’s okay if we sometimes point out a current flaw. I know Dabo and staff will fix it. He has proven that over and over. Most recently with his firing of Streeter and hiring of Riley.

CRAZY that anyone would commit to USuCk when Beamer would just grab someone from the Portal and then they don’t play! Guess we need ditch diggers too.

You Never Get Them All. . . . . . .

1

Jul 11, 2023, 8:02 PM [ in reply to Re: I know people are trying to spin it and make it a positive ]

In the world today everyone seems to think, "they deserve it all"! No school, even NC winning schools ever gets them all! Ever!

The starters and their backups for this coming season are all 4 star or higher! What's the problem?

The future you say!
Okay, well as it's been said, "knowing the depth Clemson has, do you not think that plays a factor"?
Yeah, they want NIL money, but kids still want to "play football"!
NIL money isn't NFL money, and they won't make NFL money riding the pine.

So, if you're looking down the roster and seeing the wait time you will likely have to endure, are you going to do it? Years ago, I believe a kid would. But now, with NIL and the portal, no.

Keep an eye out for the targets we lost as to how many stay at the school they choose over Clemson. Betting over half hit the portal after a year or two!

We need to do well in future classes and keep kids around who are still developing.
What Dabo and Co. will likely do is grab 3-star for the cycle who they feel can develop. We have time; if we needed help immediately, "All this dag-gone doom and gloom might be appropriate" but that is simply not the case! This time next year; if we have had some departures, I might feel differently if we hadn't signed anyone for the class after next.
We'll be okay people.

About 15 years ago, we lost a big highly rated OL recruit that we really wanted to Tennessee. For some reason, he never did much at TN.

A few years ago, I was visiting Glacier National Park and was in the Lake McDonald Lodge. A huge lodge employee noticed my Clemson shirt and hat and came over for a friendly chat. During the conversation, I realized that he was that OL recruit that shunned us for the Vols. He told me that not going to Clemson was the biggest mistake of his life, and he had converted into a Tiger fan.

Some of those we are missing will likely have those same feelings down the road.
