1-11 ACC record gets you canned. 14-6 ACC record means you have a solid program.

The ACC is the ACC

And will always be the ACC. Ten consecutive winning seasons. Never been done at Clemson before. Comparing CBB to a floundering tennis coach is a ridiculous and childish stretch. How about support the program instead of constantly wishing for the coach to get fired?

Hopefully Neff really goes after a proven winner. Weiss was only an assistant at a mediocre Alabama program before he was hired. We need to aim higher than that.

when it comes to hiring coaches that involves setting a budget and then going out and finding someone who will accept the job for the amount of money Clemson is willing to pay rather than committing to the program by hiring the best possible candidate available.

And also with volleyball.
Maybe that changes with Neff? Speaking of which is this Neff’s first head coaching hire? Or second with gymnastics

Tbh it’s mainly recruiting

The best coaches have pipelines to good talent they can consistently bring in and cultivate.
There’s a thing called UTR (universal tennis rating” which rates players ability based on their results with a scale and if you look at college team’s cumulative UTRs compared to the team’s rankings, it’s usually not that far off.
There are some players who improve a lot in college but a lot of the time the players are mostly already molded by all the junior coaching.

players and the overall roster over time. It's a pipeline thing, as previously said. Different coaches have different philosophies on where to find talent then usually stick within those lines.

Well take a look at his conference record. 5-24 overall (4 yrs) and 1-11 this year. That’s getting into the territory of the former women’s basketball coach. Glad to see Neff pulling the plug. They may make another budget hire, which I can understand because the AD budget doesn’t come from trees that grow money. However, trying someone new isn’t likely to get worse.

As T_I_P stated, if we don't bring in a proven recruiter then we may as well kept Weiss. Fact is, what difference is it to finish 1-11 in league play or 8-4 and be a bubble team. None imo. Every program should be about post season play.
So Brad having a good conference record is irrelevant.

If Neff won't fire Brownell after taking an actual NCAA tournament team to the NIT and lose in the first round, he isn't going to fire Brownell regardless of how his teams play!!!

The tennis team was 1-11 in ACC play his year while the basketball team finished 4h in the conference. If you don’t see the difference then perhaps you are the problem

mediocrity. Do nothing for 13 years and you are retained. Underperform for 4 years? You're out.

"we feel strongly that we have every resource to make this one of the top programs in the nation.”
So Neff thinks this is important for tennis, but long term mediocrity in basketball is perfectly acceptable. Let's hang on to a coach with no conference championships, and few NCAA tournament appearances, and let's pretend we're a big boy NCAA tournament team and lose in the first round of the little boy consolation NIT tournament. I have zero confidence in this guy's judgment. He's had not one, but two chances to fire Brad and bring some life back into Clemson basketball, and just won't pull the trigger.

Let's bring Lawson Duncan to coach the team! We were in a couple of Freshman classes together, but then he went pro.
