TN is under investigation for multiple NIL violations Across all sports. Not even sure what an NIL violation is? Must have to work hard to cheat when you can pay players etc

Must be miss typed. SEC teams are always on the up and up when it comes to recruiting.

Nah you beat Saban for the first time in years and the Red Elephant Club makes sure you get NCAA attention.

These schools thought they could do anything and still

do. FSU is headed toward the same issue I guarantee it(violations while on probation). UF under investigation. TAM? Coming if not already disclosed. Others too - we all know the programs at the top of the list. NCAA was not vague on using NIL as a recruiting tool - they were clear. Question becomes - will all these major programs on probation speed up the split/new org being formed for the “football” schools. Not everyone was doing what these schools were doing - nobody in control at a lot of those schools.

The NCAA doesn't have any teeth anymore to do anything, so nothing will come of it. The NLRB vs USC case will essentially make all college athletes employees, and things are going to change in a hurry. Pretty soon the NOI the recruits sign will be a binding contract tied to a compensation package.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disagree - the NCAA still has teeth until there is a split

Severe scholarship reductions, $ fines, post season bans among other things in play. Repeat offenders are the ones that will get the hammer. The NCAA investigative arm was not ready for the world of NIL. They are catching up quickly based on the # of schools we have heard are being investigated. The cases are moving quickly too - see FSU. 3-5 schollies first hit. That 2nd hit to UT eventually FSU and others won’t be pretty. At a minimum, I predict these schools(UF,TAM, Miami) will be on 1st probation within a year(there probably be 5-10 more besides that) and I guarantee you they are too stupid to change anything after the first. Predict UT and FSU will be first 2 to go down for 2nd set. Hammer coming …. Agree that a split and employment coming in the next 3-5 years but the NCAA will be doling out much quicker. The cases are just too easy to prove and the fines give them the ability to hire more investigators and reach wider and work quickly.

I just don't see the NCAA doing any of that. Sure, they'll sabre rattle and give slaps on the wrist, but they won't do anything severe that opens them up for a lawsuit because it might negatively effect student athletes. You saw how quick the lawsuits came in regard to transfer eligibility this year. With post season bans, I'm not even sure that will work anymore with the CFP being separate from the NCAA, they can theoretically invite anyone they want to the playoffs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nope. Sources in Knoxville are reporting that this has been settled slready

Tennessee denies any wrongdoing.

I'm betting that the "violations" were old rules from before the NCAA vs Alston Supreme Court case. Likely Tennessee threatened to sue and the NCAA backed down.

If so, it's another nail in the coffin for the NCAA, at least as far as football is concerned. It can't happen fast enough.

Hit em where it hurts... TV exposure. They have plenty of money, and postseason bowls games are laughable for many schools. With the Portal, limiting recruiting also does not help anymore. Because you can pay players, reducing the number of players on scholarship is no longer a problem either.
TV revenue is about the only punishment with teeth.

Remembering when schools used to be banned from live TV. With TV having grown over the years, if hit schools there w/ lost TV viewership & $, that would be a bigger hit than scholarship reductions (which I still think have some effect).

Probably only reason that's not penalty anymore is b/c the Georgia/Oklahoma Supreme Court case in the 80s, since the conferences control the TV contracts & not the NCAA.

I think they had 200 violations last time the worst in NCAA history and got a slap on the wrist. If this were the 80's they could get a SMU style death penalty this time. Sad and pathetic they can't win on their own name and merits and have to resort to cheating.

They thought this made bagmen legal so they just stopped hiding what they were doing but there are actually rules.

Will they enforce the rules?

Probably not...

The NCAA is grasping at straws trying to get some of their lost control back.

All that UT, UF, FSU, and Tre NIL collectives have to do us countersue while citing NCAA vs Alston and they have a slam dunk win for restraint of trade.
