Worried about an FSU victory

Dec 13, 2013, 11:44 AM

I've posted about this before, but now its actually a reality.

What happens to the team that ends the SEC streak of national titles?

The SEC wins 7 in a row, there is a massive media bias essentially perpetuating they are an NFL league competing in college football (wasn't it Finebaum that said Alabama could play in the NFL last year?).
We've known the SEC is dirty. The Fulmer Cup is a great (although not absolutely definite) measure of that. We've seen the way SEC teams pull in recruits with shady deals that get overlooked. Each year Alabama has won the BCS national title, some story has come out about them either paying players or using steroids. Auburn also paid players, covered up drug tests, and changed grades in 2009 and 2010. Granted, other teams have cheated at the same level (Ok State, OSU, So Cal..) but those teams were all heavily punished while the SEC teams walk free.

We've also seen the insane bias in the polls towards SEC teams, remember 2011? We've all heard on ESPN and other sports sites these idiots pushing the SEC down our throats. I saw a link to a video posted on here a few weeks ago to a CSS newscast where the news anchor said "if the best team, which would be an SEC, isn't playing in the national championship, would you really see the winner of the title game as the real champion?".

My point is, I'm worried about the first team to win the BCS title that isn't an SEC team. First and foremost, the media will explode over it. They'll spin the win as controversial, I think that is especially so given the Winston case. There will be claims of foul play and I have no doubt some of these morons will try to play FSU off as a sham or a cheat if they win in Pasadena. I wold also not be surprised if the SEC stirs up some sort of legal mess over the whole ordeal. God knows Saban would throw a fit (maybe even a lawsuit, which may happen anyways) if his team were to get beaten by FSU in the final game. After all, he threw a tantrum when A&M beat them claiming foul play by the refs. I believe he demanded for their resignations and attempted to bring legall action against them.
ANY mistake FSU has made off the field this season will come under extreme scrutiny and will cause major issues for the team in the off season, at least I think so.

If Jimbo did so much as to give Winston a free ice cream cone, I have no doubt the media and SEC cronies will be all over them trying to undermine their success this season. I feel that they'll try anything to ruin FSU's season simply because they've become the spoiled brat of college football.

What do you guys think? If FSU comes in and wins I personally think the media and the SEC will do anything they can to discredit their win because the SEC couldn't get it.

Its a stretch, but college football, particularly with the SEC, has become very political and very money driven. I would not be surprised if FSU receives heavy flak if they win.

Auburn has been surviving on borrowed time long enough.

Furthermore, the E$ecPN calling sheanigans in an attempt to discredit a win would be the epitome of hypocrisy.

I don't see why they would bother

Dec 13, 2013, 12:16 PM [ in reply to Frankly I think FSU is going ot throttle Auburn.... ]

why should they care which conference they own the rights to wins a championship?

If a team from a conference who had a contract with Fox or NBC won a title, I could see them having an issue with it, but not a team they already have the rights to.

one thing that bothers me about fsu is who have they played other than us? are they an anomaly? how good are they? duke hung with them for almost a half. to beat allbarn, they will have to stop the run because they don't throw it that well. gus runs a lot of misdirection like chad and it is at times difficult to defend. also they run the hurry up to keep you off balance and confused. I don't see fsu blowing allbarn out and I believe it will be close either way.

I have warned you about coming on this site and making rational logic and killing the mass view that espn determines who wins the mnc.

They already have stated that FSU is built like an SEC team and that's why they are so good. Of course ESecPN will try and spin it in favor of their huge contract w the SEC. It's really all about the money. That's why a great Clemson team in the middle of SEC country scares them so they let Hotlz say those nasty, classless comments, they wouldn't let him talk that way about Georgia or Alabama.

FSU is going to win...

Dec 13, 2013, 11:59 AM

the media will eventually pitch a hissy-fit and CT88 will enjoy seeing FSU back on the hotseat for the unpteenth time.

has played a very light schedule this year.and for the nat title are playing a not so great auburn team.good yes but great no.

This, sounds like something right out of a coots mouth.

Dec 13, 2013, 12:57 PM

You can make this argument with anyone, even bama, I'm tired of hearing the "they haven't played anyone bs" they're blowing anyone the play out of the water and most games could have shut teams out but their second string allowed a late score everytime. This is the definition of losers talk if you really are a tiger please don't degrade yourself to the
level of the coots, we hear them say it more than enough as it is.

but they havent...

is currently on probation for what, some $50,000 in impermissible benefits, and lost a couple what, 3-4 schollies, plus a couple in home visits by coaches. a ga tech player accepted some shirts valued at $312.00, and had to forfeit an acc championship, a bowl win, and at least 1 other win. miami should have rec'd the death penalty, imo.carolina (the real one) should have, at the minimum, 3 years,no tv,no bowls, plus some schollies taken.
now, what should usuc really have rec'd ? and i won't even bring up numerous indiscretions surrounding most other, if not all of'em. how many have been on some sort of probation in the last 5 years, anyway ? ( vandy, has, until franklin anyway, remained clean.i am not so sure about his program currently, however.) the sec as a whole is above the law, and everyone in the nation outside of sec fans KNOWS THIS.

Re: You dog the SEC yet...

Dec 14, 2013, 1:50 PM [ in reply to You dog the SEC yet... ]

Obviously infractions have occurred recently. Ohio State, Southern Cal, UNC, Miami, Ok State, etc. However, those teams were punished.
Auburn, Alabama, Florida, LSU. All had cases of academic fraud, covering up drug tests, paying players and recruits, made up classes, etc during each one of their national championship runs that were as bad as the infractions at the other schools yet NO SEC team has been punished. When the issues went to the NCAA, they completely turned a blind eye to the SEC infractions while punishing the infractions by non-SEC teams.

Probably true, but you leave no alternate route other

than continuing the same. I've said it seems the only correct answer is the one that justifies or perpetuates one's perspective with the likes of politics or big money for-profits and it'll apply here as well. Further more, you'll be able to add the exhaustive efforts of foot-in-mouth removal from all of these "professional" commentators. To me, it's all wrestling and I accept it as such. ESPN is making serious coin and the more we debate as we are now the more money they make.

To answer the question is it better for SEC to continue winning or not. It is not since we are not in the SEC.

Re: Worried about an FSU victory

Dec 14, 2013, 1:56 PM

All I'm saying is with the prominence, success, and some of the dirty things the SEC has gotten away with over the past several years may give FSU trouble if they win. The SEC may pull some strings to give FSU hell, the media could have a field day spreading incriminating rumors about the program, etc.

Look it this way, the first team to break the SEC winning streak will either come out as the almighty savior of college football, or they will be written off as a fluke, a cheat, or something of the sorts. I would not be surprised if the SEC pulls a few strings in the media and in the "football politics" to try and undermine an FSU win.

Dec 13, 2013, 3:07 PM

The SEC gets away with it for the most part. Whereas USC OSU UNC the U GT all see penalties. You can't tell me the way that the SEC regularly flips high profile recruits that all 14 of those schools are running a squeaky clean program.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The SEC excuse machine will crank up, then they will start

Dec 13, 2013, 3:40 PM

acting like FSU is an honorary member of the SEC b/c they're close by and "built like an SEC team".

Unless Jameis finally loses his composure for the first time, FSU rolls big. This is a bad matchup for Aubie, methinks.

You worry too much.....

Dec 13, 2013, 3:45 PM

The sports press is getting all it wants with the miraculous outcome of the Iron Bowl and the ability to keep printing and typing about Auburn's resurgence even if they loose to FSU.

The media has has a smoochy relationship with FSU, Winston, and Fisher all year. Most in the media have also not questioned at all the outcome of the "Winston incident." I don't believe many will do a 180 if they win.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

SEC has some issues of their own...

Dec 13, 2013, 6:12 PM

Namely, how Missouri and A&M changed from middle-of-the-road Big 12 teams to feared teams in the SEC.
