Thoughts about Saturday, as well as our football program

Oct 24, 2022, 11:37 AM

1) What a beautiful fall day in Death Valley. Nothing like a sunny day with the leaves changing for a good tailgate and ball game at Memorial Stadium.

2) To whomever is in charge - PLEASE fix the Hill. Retro back a few years, do some studies, whatever is needed. But please please fix the Hill. The Valley was electric Saturday, but it sure is depressing to see all that bare grass when the boys enter the stadium.

3) Students - kudos. Great job staying loud and intentional even when we were down two scores in the 4th quarter. And thanks for keeping it clean (at least near us). Only sidebar - SLOW down when doing the C-L-E-M-S-O-N at the end of the fight song ... just relax and let those letters come to you :)

4) We gotta get some production from the outside. Collins has zero catches in the last two games, EJ Williams has zero catches in the last three games, and Ngata has 4 catches in the last two games. Antonio Williams has been awesome, and I love using the middle of the field. Just need a little help outside.

5) I would have went for the 4th and 2. But boy B.T. Potter is good.

6) 293 rushing yards on 60 attempts. "I'll take Clemson Football 1988, for $200 Alex." Fun to see, especially with the way they played deep nickel all day. If we protect the ball I think this number would have been closer to 375.

7) DJ will be fine. Cade will be fine. Are we top 4 material? Maybe. Maybe not. But we are 8-0 and it's not possible to be any better record wise.

Here is some perspective, especially for the glass half empty Tiger fans:

- Firing Danny Ford was arguably (at the time) the worst thing CU did for its football program. Underlying factors for sure, but Danny had a 76% winning percentage, won 96 games in 12 seasons, and a National Championship. CU had established itself as a hard-nosed style football program not uncommon to the other powers at be for that era.

- In the 20 seasons after Ford, the next three coaches won 135 games. 86 losses. Winning percentage of 61%.

- Coach Swinney has 158 wins so far in 14 seasons. He has 2 National Championships. His winning percentage is 81%. When he says winning isn't easy, he's right. We watched how difficult it was for two decades. ENJOY what is happening here. It's phenomenal. Cherish it because nothing lasts forever.

GO TIGERS

Tnet. Clear and insightful as well.
I don’t think I’ve seen a better post this year, but I intentionally don’t read too many.
Thank you.

How is this even possible?

I see complainers on tnet every game.

I specifically like the guys who want to fire

Oct 24, 2022, 3:13 PM

a coordinator every time we have to punt or the opponent does something well. Then there are guys who call out specific players as "busts" when they don't make a play or not on top of their game due to other factors.

I don't peruse any other message boards during games, so I cant really compare us to anyone else, but the whining streams of consciousness on this board during a tight game is beyond pathetic. Grown men acting like spoiled teenage girls is embarrassing.

It's one thing to attempt constructive criticism based on an overall body of evidence, but it's completely something different when every single non-scoring drive for us and good plays by rhe opponent is met with single sentence, "we suck and such and such needs to be fired!", or, "player X is a bust!".

Bottom line is this staff, especially considering 2 grand new coordinators and in-game adjustments, are the very reason we're winning these games.

I too sometimes will complain about certain aspects. And yeah, I'm likely asking for too much to want people to keep a check on "childlike" emotions in the middle of a game.

Go Tigers.

If we hadn't fired DF, we would have faced tougher NCAA penalties for numerous violations. It wasn't really a choice.
