Can kiss my pork chop. Call him Coach Goodwin or weslichick; put some respect on that man’s name. In case you didn’t know that team today that had 100 yards of total offense at the start of the 4th quarter was the 2nd rated O in the ACC. His D also won last week’s game almost by themselves. In our offense’s last 6 possessions we had 25 yards, 2 first downs, and 3 fumbles(1 lost). Without his guys stepping up each and every time we lose to ND. Get your head out of your culos this guy is legit.

I’m not one of those guys, but I don’t see anything wrong with nicknames on a message board. It’s fun and nonsense on here, it’s not like they are saying it to his face.
And don’t get me wrong, Wes has proven that he knows how to run our D in a big way. We haven’t been perfect, but no D unit ever is. Venables had his hiccups too, but Wes’s guys are performing at an elite level. Had we beat FSU as we should have he’d be getting a lot more credit.

Should be named “coach of the day” for his performance today. GT came out in that first drive and showed that they were ready to play the Clemson Tigers. They should have packed their bags after that first TD because they did NOTHING afterwards until the coaches put the bench in the game. The ‘Jackets’ had one rushing yard until very late in the game. After that first TD the bees did exactly nothing until the fourth quarter. One of the most solid defensive games that this very old Tigers has seen in a very long time. Go Dabo! You da man!

I’ve tried a fair amount of searching to find some evidence - because “pork chop” is definitely not meant as a complimentary nickname - and no matter what combination of “pork chop” or “porkchop” w/ “Venables” or “Goodwin” or “Wes Goodwin” I get absolutely nothing but TNet message board results. I do not think it is a nickname Brent ever used as an actual nickname for Wes. If there was some reference that led to its adoption on TNet, I can’t find it. But that seems far more plausible than it ever being intended as an actual nickname.
And I’m not usually on the same page as Geech.

I don’t think this really makes a strong point. Per the article Dabo says “you’re not a pork chop, you’re a T-bone steak”. I don’t think this is a burning issue but the term has not meant to be complimentary as used on this board. And I can’t imagine “puddin’” be taken as anything but an insult.

Nor have I heard BV call Wes that, so no argument from me that it’s not meant to be negative.
Dabo was calling the kid pork chop fondly because he was a big guy and changed it after he saw him throwing bombs. He’s not going to go out and insult a recruit. Getting worked up over it is pure silliness and the OP is just white knighting pointlessly because he isn’t familiar with it.
If he wants to make a separate puddin post, there would be no reply from me. I’m done replying on it because he’s made up his mind that it’s an insult until Larry Williams does a deep dive on pork chop-gate.

You’d dismiss anything you weren’t already familiar with. I’m trying to educate you on the topic as a friendly gesture, since your anger is clearly misplaced. I’ve also been one of the few people actually sticking up for Wes since the beginning of the season, so clearly I wouldn’t be using the term derisively. I’ve only been around here almost a quarter century and don’t have a reputation as a liar, but if tou want to be skeptical still then no, I’m not going to go out and find documentation for you.

Wes is so much easier to type than any of the nicknames adopted by Tnetters. That's all bullchit, right? Everyone calls Dabo by his first name because that's his preference.
The real connotation of the nickname Porkchop is associated with the extreme disrespect for our OC when none of us thought we could survive after losing Venables. It doesn't matter what name you call a man by when you're talking about firing him for being fat and lazy.
It amazes me that all the harping about our defense ended when Cade found his rhythm and Clemson wasn't going 3 and out in half our drives.

You've heard me gripe. I was just explaining why the nickname is associated with negative attitudes. Are you saying people haven't complained about Dabo promoting his staff rather than choosing someone else or that half of the post calling our DC, 'Porkchop,' aren't based on negativity toward him being our DC?
There is a relationship between the nickname and blaming our DC for not doing his job and/or Dabo for hiring him.

1. Grow some thicker skin and be a man. Nothing wrong with those nicknames.
2. Being a pretty good coordinator doesn't mean we can't call him puddin or pork chop. That has to do with appearance and personality. No relation to coaching ability.
3. Anyone calling the coach of the team they root for Coach is weird. You don't play for them. If you say Coach Goodwin, that's weird as ####. Goodwin is fine.

Cosch Venables first referenced the name Porkchop during a scrimmage when he said Coach Goodwin is the Porkchop to his Green Beans. Just because it was not on the T Net message board doesn't mean it didn't happen. I also heard Cosch V make the statement in a interview on WCCP.
It is not meant to be derogatory. Just like nick names like Tiny, Slim, Shady, Sugar, Hit man, T Bone, Gypsy, Sweetness, Prime Time, The Bus, Refrigerator, Iron Head, Broadway., Deacon, Honey Badger, Mean Joe, The Snake, big fry. Etc.
Stop trying to find fault with other fans over non sense.

Posters were not using it affectionately. Whether you or Obed saw it or not, there are a number of posters who have called him porkchop puddin and all kinds of other derogatory dismissive terms because they don't believe a short portly man could do the job. It's time for those posters to admit they're wrong and a guy can be a good coach even if he doesn't look like coach V.
Again if Coach V says it he's got a relationship with the guy and they probably understand each other when he uses the nickname. There are a few rotten posters on this site who have used these terms to put down our coach that's to whom the OP was intended. If you think trying to defend our guys is nonsense fine that your right.
