this would be my merger suggestion

Jul 7, 2022, 9:00 PM

I would do a merger of ACC, BIG12, PAC12. From the PAC keep: Oregon, Cal, Washington, Stanford, Utah, Arizona St, Arizona, Colorado. From the BIG12: Baylor, Ok St, Kansas, TCU, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Cinci. And from the ACC: Clemson, Syracuse, Boston College, Virginia, Duke, NC, GT, Miami, FSU. Four six team divisions. Tell ESPN or take bids from other networks to pony up the $$$$$. You have national coverage, major markets. Good football and basketball. And protection from losing teams or worrying about what the SEC or BIG10 does next. I think this format would hold and also prevent the SEC and BIG10 trying to rule it all

It's all about bringing viewers to the TV screen. Cuse and BC don't bring enough eyeballs. Duke maybe because of Basketball but I doubt it.

Duke? The reason TV wants to pay big money is "interest" in the team. They do not have a fanbase that seems to bother much about football.
Boston College - they care about football - but who wants to play in Boston in the dang cold. So, how many eyeballs do they really attract? Boston is a pro-sports town much like San Diego(somebody had suggested the Aztecs on another thread). Any team that isn't going to garner many eyeballs when they play - should be left out of the mix - if a decent TV deal is going to be offered. Even that likely won't be enough as it is now. The talking heads that promote the games are more interested in the old money and rabid fanbase conferences a.k.a the Big 10 and the SEC.

Ah yes, Texas! The fake Mecca of H.S. football i.m.o. But, remove Cal and insert a Texas Tech or even better TCU(Dallas/Ft.Worth).

Hillrocktiger thanks for including us (WVU). We do have a passionate fan base and hope that we somehow land in the SEC. I’m aware that we will not be the 1st choice, or the 2nd or 3rd rounds, but I do believe we have a lot to offer. We have struggled of late in both major sports, but the fan support will continue.

We owe W. Virginia a big Thank You for Brent Venables arrival.
We also owe the Mountaineers a A## whipping, LOL!

If it's about passionate fanbases then you would have to include the Morgantown folks!

Why reorganize to have a conference with crappy teams on the theory that people love to watch those crappy teams? Why not cobble together the best conference in FB and let the eyeballs take care of themselves.

Washington
Oregon
Stanford
BYU
Utah
Iowa State
Ok State
Baylor
Texas Tech
Cincinnati
Houston
UCF
Clemson
Miami
UNC maybe
App State
Coastal
Louisiana

I guess Miami would be the patsy.

Because Viewership Matters!

Jul 8, 2022, 6:13 PM

How many people are interested enough to watch the game matters. Some of the teams you listed have good programs; yes.
But, do they have enough, "Casual Fans"?
The hardcore fans aren't the ones driving the bus here. The casual fans/fairweather fans who are all excited at the start of the year or depending on who their team is playing is who people want to get. Why? Because the "Casual Fan" is the person who only watches their team! That is that person that is in Marketing and Promotions only opportunity to put their product in front of that "Casual Fan"! The hardcore fan will watch their team and everybody else's team and will see the advertisement multiple times on Saturday.
This thing is all about dollars and "Sense"! If it doesn't make dollars it doesn't make sense(cents)!

You couldn't ignore state schools like Arizona and Arizona St.

App St. great program. My family is an actual part of the program; but how many eyeballs besides regional eyeballs would they attract. Arizona and Arizona St. have larger alumni bases. Same question with Cincinatti.

How about a conference of every school except B1G and $EC and call it NCAA? We can ask $EC and B1G to join, but they have to follow rules set by NCAA and share revenue equally.
