I needed to convince me where I feared NIL & the transfer portal would take a small program like Clemson (like Dabo had built).
Those two (2) elements (TP & NIL) feel like a cancer that infected an otherwise healthy host.
The response is to ADAPT, get treatment, take chemotherapy & radiation. Yeah, I agree. Too late for this season to take advantage of the transfer portal, and NIL is what it is, so nothing can be done there.
I WILL ALWAYS have the GREATEST RESPECT and ADMIRATION for Dabo Swinney, and I still believe he is the greatest head football coach that Clemson has ever had. I will always want him to be the Clemson head coach for as long as he wants to be at Clemson.
I am still a Clemson Tiger fan that HURTS BAD when the Tigers lose, and I still pull for the Tigers no matter what may come.
But, what I saw last night in Durham has PUNCHED a dose of reality into my face. This HURT will last for a LONG TIME.
This year’s team got it’s reality check last night. I fear that the reality checks for this season have just begun.
I can’t remember a game where the Tigers were so out of sync and dare I say it…BAD!

At this point the cancer isn't the NIL/Portal, it's the Head Coach refusing to use them.

by a team we should have beat. Period. No excuses. Problems are obvious and must be addressed, not downplayed or ignored.

The problems have become worse. Last night's game showed 2 things. The problems have gotten worse. I also believe the problems cannot be fixed with the current positional coaches and players that we have.

This is the fastest team he's ever had. The o-line is the best he's ever had. Blah, blah, blah.
Clemson's problems aren't directly related to the portal or NIL. Sure they play a part. I think the problems boil down to one thing, Jeff Scott. Was he a great coach, no not really. He was good but not great. But he could evaluate talent and recruit like a world beater. That's what we're missing. Plus Dabo trusted him completely. I think if he were here, you might see Dabo using the portal, because if Jeff told Dabo that the best player was in the portal and not a high school kid, Dabo would believe him.
As far as NIL goes, play well and the deals will come. I mean heck DJ had a Dr. Pepper deal and never started a game. Cade has a Beats deal, and only started one game before last night.
