FSU leaving the ACC may be the best solution for all parties involved...

If the Seminoles leave, the ACC should see to it that Clemson gets 100% of FSU's share of the ACC revenue. This would keep Clemson on par with teams in other conferences from a revenue standpoint. This would also go a long way to building good will with the remaining ACC institutions as they would not have to give up any of their current revenue, as proposed by FSU with the unequal profit sharing scheme they concocted. And since FSU brings absolutely nothing to the table as far as football goes, it won't hurt the ACC's overall strength if they were to leave.

If I were the ACC commissioner, I'd be helping Mike Norvell pack his Slingshot...

I think his point is that the 2/3rds majority required to pass this seems unlikely.***

Where you been this is the current hot topic concerning the ACC and its opportunity to stay relevant. It’s slowly dying and to listen to this commissioner he has not a clue it’s even happening.

What the commissioner needs to do, is hire a dynamic marketing director (like me) and make a new show to pitch to Disney, ABC, FOX, I'd try pitching all of them. And instead of the subpar tv talent they need some splash hires, big names for big money.

Once they start generating new content and have some pretty influential people in the sports world generating buzz about the ACC, then they need to give Notre Dame the ultimatum either be all in or all out.

Depending on what ND does and while setting this in motion they need to drop the two lowest ranking teams as far as a revenue standpoint. Probably BC and GT. Not sure if that's the lowest teams or not just a guess.

Then they need to make a deal with West Virginia and another team that has a decent program with a good following.

These steps would probably over the course of 10 years revive the conference and hopefully with new TV pundits the Not Clemson's of the conference would field better on the recruiting trail and our conference would be the better for it.

If FSU leaves and Clemson stays , being competitive in sports is over at Clemson. You can go back to the late 60s when Clemson was homecoming opponent for Bama, UGA and Auburn.

The ACC had a higher payout than the SEC when FSU joined. I say kick FSU out since they brought the conference down.

Do not figure we would stay but stranger things have happened. I would just tell the ACC that we will run the current ND gig and schedule the rest of our games against SEC and B1G schools.

If FSU left wouldn't that void the GOR because the contract would no longer be for the Conference as it was signed? My understanding is that if you lose or gain a member there's a do over.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If that were the case, for any member

1

Mar 3, 2023, 9:27 AM

Wouldn't that render the GOR toothless altogether? Why would GOR even be a discussion? Flipside, wouldn't remaining members HOPE for a member to leave and collect even more easy money? Am I missing something?

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That sounds shallow if...

Mar 3, 2023, 11:22 AM

you take a superficial look but in actuality it's a possible out for Clemson. If FSU pulls the trigger and exits the conference that will enable Clemson to claim the ACC has voided the GOR contract.

It will also enable ESPiN to make the same claims. I suspect with a serious reduction of ACC's value due to a major draw leaving ESPiN won't be kind and other teams looking for greener pastures won't be jumping the fence to join the ACC.

Imo, either FSU or Clemson could destroy this conference. Perhaps any team willing to suffer lawsuit might be able to break the deal.

If FSU left the ACC Clemson would be entitled to renegotiation.

Either you left out some important considerations or I took the long way around the block, idn.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well Disney has the contract with the ACC

Mar 3, 2023, 7:42 PM

So that rules out Fox or CBS. ESPN should be doing as much to promote the ACC as they do the SEC, but they don't. There should be something in that Grant of Rights that says that the ESPN should be promoting the ACC to the fullest. If not, what a pitiful contract. Who wrote it? Alex Murdaugh?

But if it does say that, and it can be proven that ESPN is not holding up their end, it could be seen as a breach of contract.
