My cut and buff consist of working detachable body parts on the table. I'm shooting at least 3 coats of clear on the black sheetmetal and I expect the orange peel to be a certain torture. I will not tolerate swirls in this paint so I start with probably (WET) 1200 grit paper then 1500, 2K, 2500, 3K, 5K then 3M's second stage compound then their finish buffing compound then some good wax.

Remember, this car body has 87K on the clock and there are only a few small dents in the hood which the lightest finishing compound will fill and a bit of the heavier filler over the welding I did in the back end of the rear wheel wells.

A good body man could make this car perfect to paint in half a day, I'm allowing a week. Remember, I said 3 months to paint this car. I wasn't joking, I made my table so the height can be adjusted so I can literally sit in an office chair and sand all day. I am amphibious (or something like that) I can use either hand about as well as the other.

A compound, and most stop at 2000. 5000 is for headlights and windshields.

I’m not telling you not to, I’m just saying the difference after compounding if you stopped the sand at 3k vs 5k would be imperceptible.

This might take you down to 2.5 months.

I've had that 3M 5kg for two years.

I have a pair of the euro headlights so that might have been why I bought it but I have few packs of different brands of 3" disc for headlight cover which includes some 10K grit paper.

I reckon I need to start studying my notes rather than making assumptions.

Now onto another point, why don't you just come to Greenvegas and paint this car for me!

If I were a local I’d have been over there by now and she’d at least be primed.

I just got a look at Glen's garage two weeks ago. I removed over 250 cans/half cans of paint and nearly 40 @ 55 gal trash bags full of crap that should never been brought into that building. I hung 30' of tarps to isolate my work space and covered ~60 lf of 10' tall walls rather than cleaning them good enough to shoot sealer and 2k highbuild primer.

You'd have needed to bring a pocket full of money to rent a commercial building to work in and that means at least a 1 yr lease.

You sure talk a lot of chit but I try to hold my own. lol

I know you would and in this case, from you I'd take a handout and a handup and be bless to work with you on this car. You'd be the first I've invited to touch it since my oldest son helped me pull wiring through the firewall.
