This is why I hate the playoff

For the first time in 7 years next week, I will be watching a “meaningless” game. We can win the ACC and a decent bowl game and everyone will still be disappointed. I remember not long ago when we won th orange bowl with 2 losses I was as happy as you can find a tiger.
Now, no one will be happy regardless of the outcome. Conference title would mean little and an orange bowl victory would mean little.
And these are outstanding feats we should be proud of. Welcome to the NFL.jr

For us yes, for college football in general, no.

This is such a joke.

The playoffs did not change anything other than give us a legitimate national champion. That’s all. It’s the media and ESPN that made the playoffs the end-all be-all.
10 years ago how many programs had a legitimate chance to win the national championship every year? Five or six? Now with the 14 playoff how many teams each year have a legitimate chance of winning the national championship? Five or six? What has changed? Nothing. The only thing that has changed is perception.

Was waiting for someone to miss the point like you just did. It’s about bowl games, conference championships and rivalries that matter to me as a CFB fan, not only playoffs like you just mentioned

Even if there wasn't a playoff, our games the rest of this

season would be meaningless on the national stage, and really the conference stage. This is the type of season, you go back to getting fun out of simply beating someone and hopefully watcing the team improve as the season goes.
But to your point, that is why I still like the 12-team format for playoff. It keeps people in the discussion longer. Even with that system, we'd be out of the discussion this year, unless we rallied and won the conference. Not a likely scenario.

Don't hate the Playoff's. They are not responsible for what you have witnessed in Clemson S.C. this year.

Nothing to do with just Clemson, more addressing the lesser importance of big games like the rose bowl and conference championships. They simply don’t matter like they used to because it’s playoffs or bust

Not sure the playoff is to be hated. We’ve had a great run, and we’ll miss the playoffs this year. Not sure why everyone is so stunned. It’s hard to do it every year forever. This was bound to happen at some point.
It doesn’t look like it today…but Clemson can go back to the goals that got us there in the first place… Win the next game Win the open week after that…get healthier. String together more wins Win the division (still very possible…particularly if we win the next game….lot of football left) Win the state If winning the division, win the conference. Win the bowl game.
Pretty sure most of us would enjoy watching the Tigers turn it around and reach those goals if it happened…particularly if the young guys had some success that set them up for next year.

The playoffs have been awesome to Clemson. Clemson is the best team in the playoff era cept maybe for Bama. The playoff era has been VERY good to Clemson. And sure I'd rather be in the playoffs, but what's wrong with playing in a bowl game? Assuming we get better on offense, I would love to play a Southern Cal or Penn State or Florida... someone we never played or haven't played in a very long time. That would be awesome. I'm kinda glad we are no longer in the playoff running this year cause let's face it....we would get killed. But we might have a shot at beating Michigan or someone.

We wouldn't have a chance of staying in a game with Florida or Michigan this season. GaT lost to Northern Illinois (NIU). NIU was beaten by Michigan 63-10. Florida had only to score a 2-pt conversion to beat Bama.
A more realistic goal for our TIgers will be to play their best game this season and squeeze by BC next Saturday. Don't beat your ranch on it. Every game, for the rest of this season, is going to be difficult for our Tigers. If we played them in 6 days, the USuC team would be favored by 8-10 points. Our offense is terrible. Our defense is disappointing. (For goodness sack, in quarters 2, 3 and 4, GaT had 300 yards of offense.) While we held GaT to 8 points, they moved up and down the field on us; like UGa in the second half. And like NCSU did almost all of today. Today, NCSU ran 96 plays (vs 49 by CU). Our D was exhausted.
Our D is not that good; teams have found that Venable's plan can be beaten w quick hitters and quick throws, yet our D has not changed. And our D can't get off the field; or if they do, our O has to start w poor field position.
It's going to be a long year.

See above post where I say it’s been great to Clemson but I don’t like what it’s done for college football and the effect of once important bowls and conference titles
