This failed play may have helped us win the national title.

I have watched the replay of the WF game several times but have never noticed this before. Against WF, we were slightly offsides but it gave the coaches some time to work the kinks out before we really needed it. Listen closely at the end when one of the announcers asks "why would you do this?" Because we may need it to win the natty would be the correct answer!!!!

I was formally known as Furious george and have changed my name to match the name I use to call on WCCP radio.

I love the other announcer saying "why not"

This is the very same onside kick we executed to perfection on the next to last play against AL with one second left. If we had been offsides then we may have lost the game.

The kick against WF was a surprise. The kick in the Bama game wasn't. If Bama had recovered the ball the clock would have started and the game would have been over.... probably. But I see your point and the offsides was obviously corrected in practice.

I still contend that the big play in the last seconds that goes unnoticed is Scott's block on the pass to Renfro.

I think Bama was surprised. If not, they didn't handle the play well.

I think the poster is being a little dramatic. The only way we could have lost the game on a KO would have been a runback. On the onside kick , it was recovered when Heugel was down--thus leaving a second on the clock---If Bama had recovered, most likely the player would not have been laying down when he recovered and the clock would have expired(JMO). Dabo was giving Saban a little payback to dwell on in the off season, again JMO.

You may be correct but what if we had been offsides and had to rekick. Dabo would not have done the onside kick again. Bama might have then pulled off some miraculous play with a big return. The point of post is that the failure of the previous play at WF prepared us for the proper play execution when we needed it later on.

That was my 7 year old son's first away game.

Was just me and him, was cold as a witches teet that night. So much fun though.
