I was sure Cade was following the playcall, and I’ve been really confused why coaches were being so dumb, but now all is clear.

Dude is a rogue project QB. This season is a throwaway, let’s try some other guys. Nothing to lose.

So, this is TWO overtime games vs two Florida schools....that TWO plays in overtime...where the field LEADER on the Offense makes two bone-headed mistakes that END THE FREAKIN' GAME.......

Un.....believable.....

One one had, in this Miami game....honestly, I can't blame CK2....why you might ask????

Cause it was the SAME DUM@$$ PLAYCALL AS THE PREVIOUS THREE THAT WENT STRAIGHT NO F>#$ING WHERE!!!

Hindsight, let Cade ADIBLE to a FREAKIN' PASS PLAY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!??

#### this Offensive (very offensive) coaching staff!!!

Go Tigers!!!

Maybe if Mafah was back there, Cade would have trusted the play call

Yes Mapha should have been in there and ran the ball. He is the bigger back. Actually he should have in run it on 3rd down. Shipley is not playing well enough to be in there instead of Mapha.

I'm not gonna come in here and say something that hasn't already been said. This team SUCKS.

From top to bottom, head coach to the position coaches, from QB to O-line, we suck right now. That said, Cade going rogue like that has got to have consequences. Everyone blamed it on DJ last year, but look how he's doing out at Oregon State. Its our position coaches thaf are absolute garbage. Our Oline has been, is, and will be trash. There is no development. Dabo needs to stop hiring from within and go make the right hires like he did in the beginning. Brent Venables wasn't hired from within. Chad Morris wasn't from within. Taking ex-players and giving them their first coaching job has been a disaster and has set us back a decade. This team and its lack of confidence, talent, and development is on the hands of Dabo.

It really feels like the best is behind us and the worst is yet to come.

We go 7-5 AT BEST this year. Like I predicted after that Duke loss.

Exactly. Hasn’t work in a long while. Not consistently since Danny Ford. I wouldn’t trust the o line either. They couldn’t execute simple blocking schemes. Player development has stagnated. Perhaps Cole Stoudt is to blame (offensive player development coach). We haven’t seen development in a long while. Since the last Natty.

He is what he is. It ain't gonna get better. 5-4 now as a starter.

Not to mention he didn’t have but around 1.7 seconds before the pass rush was in his face. O line was the culprit and has been for some time.

You’re thinking about some other QB.

Our guy has inconsistent accuracy, same as was the case with DJU. His arm strength is not very good. Not terrible, but not very good.

He’s very fast when running in a linear fashion, but has no wiggle. That is why he goes down so easily when running. He just isn’t a shifty guy. He has minimal lateral movement ability. Again, the embodiment of a guy who has superb straight line speed, but who is not situated to make those quick scrambling plays like former Louisville QB Malik Cunningham or BC’s Castellano.

He has improved immeasurably as far as pocket presence and making the short to intermediate throw when rolling to the left. Last year, he was awful in the pocket and always scrambled to his right.

Situational awareness has improved from last year. He also has improved on recognizing the hot route and knowing when (and how) to throw the ball away from last year (when he was dreadful). But he still has a long way to go before reaching a level of a winning QB.

Yeah, sorry but CK2 looks like a scared little highschooler with a strong arm. Has the talent to make some throws, but completely lacks pocket presence, decision making ability and just a general sense of who’s where on the field. That, along with a horrible offensive line, very passive defense, questionable talent at skill positions, and coaches. Other than that, I think we’re good to go for the pinstripe bowl?

Young kid was just trying to make a play…. That run up the middle was gonna get shut down again anyways. Outcome would have been the same either way and we all knew getting the 2pts after wasn’t gonna happen. We lost this game in the first half!! Tough to watch, I love our defense but our offense is just not dialed in. Can’t get the run game going, O line got pushed back last night and bullied

Given CK2’s challenges with respect to decision making, the coaches made the right play all to simply hand the ball off to Shipley.

CK2 is simply not psychologically ready to make big plays in the biggest situations.

This little kid trying so hard to be a hero instead he is looking like a renegade not following a play call. This far in the season and hasn’t grown up yet. No doubt the best QB’s overall come from the southeast part of this country. Maybe it’s time to see what Helms can do with a first team offense for several series. This train has come off the tracks quickly for many reasons. This may get a lot rougher.

Re: TNET: Klubnik says final play is on him: "I take full responsibility"

The kid can’t throw it with the best of them. He was 18 of 34. Does not matter that he bungled the play. They would have stuffed Ship.
He’s 4-3 this year. TL was 38-2 for his career. Try Vizzino because we have absolutely nothing to lose. We are gonna be 7-5 or 6-6 if we finish strong. I don’t know how you get them up for the Pack at Raleigh.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Klubnik says final play is on him: "I take full responsibility"

Oct 22, 2023, 10:50 AM

His arm strength is medium. His accuracy is a little bit below medium. If you watch the reruns, this will be obvious to you.

Medium accuracy doesn’t necessarily mean an incompletion. It means throwing the ball just enough off line that the receiver has little chance of running after the catch.

Some of CK2’s throws are right on the money. Beautiful passes. He had a few of those last night. More often, though, he was a bit off target, even on his completions. For most of the incompletions, it was his fault. Notable exceptions were the early game incompletions on those medium to deep routes to Collins. Those were purposely intended as 50 / 50 balls in which we figured that Collins, due to his size advantage, would win.

Throw it with the best of them? Hardly.

Oct 22, 2023, 9:08 AM

As difficult as it is at times I try very hard to not question the play calling. In this case Dabo says the call was a hand off but CK went rogue and did his own thing. I don’t know what all the problems are , but there are several. IF your QB 1 will not run the play he was told, then sit his a$$ on the bench. I would love to see CV or HH in there for a while. Give them a shot. NOW: we have to look at WHY the QB will not follow directions. Is this a case of him beiing selfish and undisciplined? Is he questioning the play calling and feel as though he knows something the coaches don’t? I mean, really, what gives? Is this indicative ofa serious issue among the coaching staff?
We better get to the bottom of this quickly, or I am afraid we are going to lose some of our best players on both sides of the ball to the portal.

I couldn’t agree more.

For players who don’t listen to the professional coaching staff, the unpaid coach … Coach Bench … will get a disobedient player’s attention.

I am now very concerned about us losing star players through the portal, and having star recruits defect.

All the problems begin and end with inexperience coaching. It starts out on Monday, and the results show up on Saturday. I've been saying for almost two seasons now that Dabo fumbles his coaching hires without ever doing a legit coaching search, he has pulled people out of their office jobs and called them a FB coach, it's the truth and it's just that simple. To deny it is just trying to find another excuse for Dabo fumbling the ball!!!

Immediate reaction is to make it about the last play. We shouldn't fall into the trap of making this game or any other about the last play that Cade didn't make. Let's concentrate on how we got here. Cade made some wonderful reads and throws in the game. But we're losing the trenches and have for several years.

It's ashamed Antonio got hurt again. But there were a couple plays stellato was open and Cade chose another option. So, I don't think the receivers are as bad as we think. Plus, we're probably going to force mafah to transfer, when Shipley should be sat and mafah, Jay should get more touches. Whether that's on Spiller, Riley, or Dabo, idk. But I do know Austin needs to be shown the door.

Re: TNET: Klubnik says final play is on him: "I take full responsibility"

Ck2 has a bad case of tunnel vision. It is likely that, in HS while playing for world beater Westlake High, his primary receiver nearly always got open and his pass protection gave him 5+ seconds to throw the ball.

With shorter amount of time for the pocket to hold up, coinciding with the usual college situation where the primary receiver is not guaranteed to be open each time, CK2 is trying to learn how to make the critical mental adjustment of ‘seeing’ the field better and to making timely throws. He doesn’t typically see the field well enough to make fast, confident decisions when throwing the ball.

He has a LOOOOONG ways to go before becoming a winning college QB. At this stage and given his rate of improvement, I have confidence that he’ll get there for the 2025 season.

We gave up on our kicker after three games of miserable performance..isn’t time we start thinking about the same move at QB? We have nothing to lose except the entire rest of the schedule. We are going to get the absolute brakes beat off of us from here forward unless we do something different.

Oh, and our super senior defensive end who calls himself a leader can’t play because he violated team rules! Dude’s been a disappointment since he showed up on campus. Injuries or behavior, take your pick.

The XT situation is incredibly disappointing.

For himself.

He needed every single game to show the NFL that he can contribute. His play during first half of the year has been very good, but hardly superstar level.

He needs to show some superstar stuff over the next 5 games if he is going to have a shot at the NFL. He won’t turn many s outs’ heads if he isn’t playing.

That isn’t his call to make. If a player goes rogue, fails, and makes an excuse that he went rogue because he didn’t think the play that the coaches called would work, then the player needs to leave.

Fortunately, CK2 did not say that. He explained his rationale for going rogue and failing, but he did not blame the coaches for his bad decision. Good for him.

Re: TNET: Klubnik says final play is on him: "I take full responsibility"

At least someone wants to take full responsibility. Now I would like for Dabo to say that it is completely on him and the coaching staff. I would like to hear, "There are times when we are better off for Cade to make decisions on the field, and times when the call from the sidelines shouldn't be questioned. The mistake is on us for not better instructing him on identifying the difference." I don't care if he believes it, but that's what I want to hear.

Oct 22, 2023, 11:32 AM

Klubnik, undoubtedly a great kid on a human level, may have come to Clemson as a 5 star, but he does not play like one. All too often there is a mental lapse or poor judgment resulting in a significant and costly error. He always says the right thing afterwards, and the coaches keep speaking of his growth, but when will it all gel?

There are "top" players whose game performance is like the horizon, always in the distance as they move towards it. This QB's mental lapses are hard to understand, or to accept. He may be a project in progress, but a really top quarterback, closing in on the completion of 2/3 of his college career, would not be making sophomoric mistakes as a sophomore.

Plenty of blame to go around here. The simply fact is just DO NOT have any playmakers on offense on the team right now. Who can you count on to go the free throw line with the game on the line.

It’s not just what Cade sees, it’s what he doesn’t see. On 2nd down in the second OT, Collins was standing alone at the goal line. Cade scrambles left and doesn’t see him. He was literally 8 yards from Cade. Cade looked right past him and tried to get it to Brown. How many times this year has he NOT SEEN the open receiver(s)?
