I have no idea how this team's record will end up. I have a hunch Dabo and crew have them poised to make a nice run this year, potentially repeating as conference champs and maybe even making some noise on the national scene despite some inexperience and lack of depth along the OL/DL/DB depth charts. But I have to say I am very proud right now of this program.
I know there are a growing number on TNet that seem to snarl orget frustrated when anyone posts with regard to faith. I understand that. So many people try to force feed religion down the throats of others. But I also believe that Christians are entitled to their opinions and as a follower of Christ I know that we should be confident (not arrogant) in our Biblical worldview. And it is as a follower of Christ that I am most excited and proud of this team.
People are people, and who knows if everyone around this program who is seemingly reping Jesus is authentic, but the unapologetic confidence in faith in God that seems to be the foundation on which our football program (at least internally) operates is inspiring. To hear Corico's humility in his personal story of dealing his relationship with his dad, players thanking God for how blessed they are (and not the usual brand of athletic pompous pulling of the God-card, but genuine gracious thanks), the familial atmosphere of the coaching staff that is pulling in recruits as they see that not only coaching but mentorship is happening at CU, and today seeing Jeff Scott tweet a picture of Nuk being baptized on the practice fields in a therapy tub in front of his teammates is amazing today. It is countercultural, revolutionary in today's America that would relegate Christianity to keep its mouth shut and sit at the back of the room.
So I am proud of this team: for what they seem to be representing, for their seeming focus on growing men and not just football players, for their determination to glorify God. I am proud of the way they played, fought, and won, but much more so because of the Biblical virtue and character they put on display for a watching world on national television.
If posting this makes you uncomfortable or ruffles feathers, then so be it. I am humbled that the blood of Jesus saves me and all who put their faith in Him, And I am happy to be an alumni and former player at Clemson.
